Sunset Lodge

What a special place Sunset Lodge is and it truly lives up to its name. The views are spectacular and it is so private and secluded. The lodge itself is so tastefully furnished and comfortable. We recommend the coast path walk to Hope Cove, the walk to Aveton Gifford and then into Cockleridge via the tidal road and wading across to Bantham (a lot of fun) and lazy days on the beach at Yarmer!

Fabulous location looking out to sea and to the sunset. Tim, our host was most helpful but not at all intrusive. The lodge is small but beautiful with everything you need. Very close to a wonderful stretch of Devon coast. We loved it!

Would be good to have a microwave. No internet - though no problem with 4G.

Sunset Lodge is one of the most beautiful places we have stayed - the views were incredible from the deck and we were graced with some amazing sunsets so it was true to its name! You have unobstructed views from the patio deck and the host has carefully considered this view in raising up the height of the garden table and bench so that you can enjoy a gin and tonic at the perfect height level to watch the sun go down over Burgh Island! The bed is large and super comfy and we loved being able to roll out of bed and onto the patio to enjoy a cooked breakfast using the well equipped kitchenette. This is a rustic cabin that is very nicely decorated & surprisingly warm and snug in the evenings and perfect for couples. It's also a great base for exploring the local area, it's just a few steps away to walk down the estuary footpath into Bantham, Bantham beach is great for surfing, South Milton beach is a stones throw away with the BeachHouse cafe & Thurlestone Rock. We were visiting the area to do some paddleboarding and Bantham estuary to Averton Gifford is great for that as long as you check tide times, as well as the Kingsbridge estuary which offered us a glorious 12K paddle to Salcombe and back. All the South Hams hot spots are a short drive away and we'd highly recommend popping over to Hope Cove (a beautiful village) and trying out the famous fajitas in award winning super trendy The Cove bar if you've never been! Our host Tim couldn't have been more helpful and we have already recommended Sunset Lodge to 3 other couples so don't miss out on this hidden gem!

This isn't really a negative so don't read it as one - it's more of a mental note! There are two places with very similar names right next to each other. Both have stone pillars, a white garage and a lodge (all in travel description). However, if you're arriving from the main road, Sunset Lodge location is the second driveway along. I will say it was completely our fault as sat nav finished there and after a long drive, we just read Aune Cross Lodge, saw the other elements were there (including a lodge) and assumed it was correct. However, it was not! Aune Cross HOUSE is literally 50 yards further on the same side of the road! An easy mistake to make but aside from that very minor detail, this place is worth finding and we were thrilled with our few days there.

The location and views are stunning. We meet Tim and he was very welcoming and informative. The lodge is very quiet and private. There is nothing to dislike.
