The Carriage House 1836

Seriously 5 stars! This place is SO cute!! I honestly felt at home here. The decor was exactly my style, very cozy, and the personal touches from this host were above and beyond. A complimentary bottle of wine, a Keurig with Starbucks coffee pods, the binder of local restaurants on the coffee table, the extra throw blankets, the FULL kitchen equipped with anything and everything you could need, and a basket of snacks. I mean, this host covered it ALL. Not to mention it was exceptionally clean. It was PERFECT for our anniversary weekend and will definitely book again when visiting the area.

I have nothing negative to say about the accommodations.

The property was clean, attractive and comfortable. It's in a charming historic area.

Avoid!!! My first clue that something was not right should have been that the host begged me not to leave a negative review later after my stay. Then she was annoyed that I asked for clarification on the keypad. Because the furnace was not working in the property I rented, she offered the neighboring property, which I thought was gracious. However, as soon as someone from my party flushed the toilet in the restroom, the shower immediately backed up with tons of black gunk and standing water, rendering the shower and toilet unusable. We were offered the dazzling opportunity of traipsing across the street and back in the middle of the night (3 boys, youngest is 11) to use the bathroom. Like at camp. So that's what we did. Dan, although he knocked on the door a hour before the checkout time (and asked if we were done) was very kind and mentioned that we would probably be compensated for our trouble. However, when I followed up on this, Jennifer first asked for my address, and then ghosted me. Booking.com's customer service was also unsuccessful in getting her to make this right. She is completely unprofessional and dishonest.

Location & charismatic apartment

I thought the house was very clean. That is number one priority. I appreciated the owner's husband greeting us and explaining the furnace situation.

I understand the owner was doing an adjustment to the signage, however temporary signs would have been helpful. We did not see Carriage House anywhere which was a bit confusing.

Proximity to town. Charming place.

Perfectly located 5 minute walk to downtown. Very cozy and clean!

The whole "house" was actually just the upstairs and I had not read that. As an older person it would have been nice to know how many stairs it took to access the property.

Loved the fire pit area and cute rooms in the house.

Too many steps to get up to our living area didn’t realize that, for we all had knee and health issues. We did manage it though and had an assembly line to get our stuff up and down lol! We made it work!
