Washpen Falls

We had a lovely stay at Washpen Falls Chalet. The place was well looked after and really clean. We loved stargazing from out in the hot tub, and the Washpen Falls walk was also really interesting and had some stunning scenery. Thanks for hosting us!

The owner seemed really lovely and were quick to help with an issue that could be resolved. The hot pool was good and the stars were amazing at night.

Location and photos aren’t too accurate. The photos are definitely heavily filtered and taken at misleading angles. They give a more modern and luxurious feel than what you actually get. I feel the price also misleads you to thinking you will be getting more than you actually get. The chalet is right next to the entrance to the waterfall walk, but this means the location is not private or secluded as the photos also make it out to be. The public toilets are attached to the chalet, and you are right next to the public carpark. There is also no cooling in the house except for one fan, so we opted to put the mattresses in the lounge so that we could be cooler as majority of the windows in the home kept blowing shut as well. One other downside we found was that a lot of the provided dishes were dirty so we had to give everything a good scrub before we used them.

Lovely warm and cosy cabin, perfect place for a weekend away. The Chalet actually has 3 bedrooms as there is one smaller room with a single bed that leads to the outdoor area. Very clean and tidy with a well stocked kitchen, it has almost everything you would need for several nights. Plenty of towels supplied which I really appreciate as so many places now do not provide anywhere near enough. It is beautifully decorated throughout, and we loved relaxing in the spa and in front of the fire after completing the walk.

Anyone staying should be aware that this is located right by the public carpark for the walk and the public toilets are attached to the building. Meaning that if you are in the bedrooms or bathroom on that side of the house you can hear everything (and I mean everything..) from the public toilets. Cars park right outside so we were awaken at 7:30am on Saturday morning by people slamming doors and loudly talking to each other as they got out of their cars, used the facilities and waited for the walk to open at 8am. Appreciate that this is somewhat out of the hosts control but perhaps some signs put up about keeping noise to a minimum/respecting guests staying on the property.

Set on a working farm with lovely views across the fields and up the hillside. Really pretty setting and super quiet area. Beds were really comfortable and linens were great - and the place was spotless. Thankful for the extra space heater provided by the host on request as otherwise there was no heat in the bedrooms (and it was too late in the evening to get a fire started to sufficiently heat the space). Shower had surprisingly great water pressure and hot water - major plus!

Disappointed in the general living space based on such great previous reviews and pictures. But perhaps all in one's perspective. I imagine this would be a great place to get a break from backpacking or campervans, but not quite the same standard or modern lodging as our other stays. The cabin is old and has its limitations. Example: there is only one outlet in each room. So you can plug in your choice: beside lamps, phone charger, or space heater. We opted for heat.

The chalet was ideal for 2 couples. Excellent facilities and the fireplace was perfect on the cold winter evenings. An amazing place to escape to and the walk is a must-do.
