"A cozy little place!"

10.0

I stayed here for 5 days to celebrate my 30th. It might not be for everyone, but it was great to spend some time in relative isolation, catching up on my sewing in the living area, and enjoying the views. The host was lovely, and the facilities were also better than expected. I'll definitely be back at some point!

The address listed on booking.com is for the farm that owns/operates it and not for the barn itself. That fact wasn't explained in the booking, and it took me a good while to realise that it's actually up the next turning on the main road. Also, I'd recommend bringing your own firewood (or cadh) if staying for more than one night and planning on using the heater, as only the first night is supplied free.

"Perfect location and new experience"

6.0

Location was perfect. The beds were comfortable and Jean was friendly and welcoming.

The price didn't match the cleanliness unfortunately. The kitchen could have been slightly better/ cleaner and the bed on the top bunk with a sheet on and pillow cases were full of bebri (maybe from the ceiling of the barn). Fortunately I used the quilt provided to lie on top of and used my own sleeping bag and pillow. I'm not usually one to complain but felt it needed a bot of tlc and good deep clean for better value in price. You also needed £1 to use the shower but it was nice and hot so not the worst thing to have to do. Very limited electric sockets, only in the kitchen and none in the sleeping area.

"Unwelcoming, unsafe, and completely lacking in care or professionalism"

1.0

Nothing

As a solo female traveller, I found the host incredibly dismissive and unkind. From the beginning, she said I "didn't need a key" — despite the fact that I was staying alone. The place was filled with spiders, including inside the mattresses, and when I raised this, she simply said, “This is a barn, that’s how it’s supposed to be.” That level of infestation is unacceptable for any paid accommodation. There should be a basic standard of hygiene and regular removal of pests if you're charging guests to stay. I had a complete breakdown. I had barely a signal, no internet, and felt stranded. I ended up hitchhiking and finding another hotel where I checked in at nearly 11 p.m. The thought of sleeping in those conditions was distressing enough, but what made it worse was the host’s rude, unsympathetic manner. When I mentioned I’d pay to stay at her B&B, she simply said, “We can’t assist you,” and hung up the phone.
