THE ORCHARD (HOSTEL WITH PRIVATE BUNKS)

Great location, walkable to town and the hot springs. Big horn sheep graze around the streets at dusk. The bunks were new and everything very clean.

The design is cute but not functional. Storage lockers on the ground floor are tall and very narrow; even my backpack wouldn't fit. On check in they explain how to unlock the front door but not how to lock it (turn the bolt inside, press and hold # outside), so the front door was often unlocked and anyone could come in off the street day or night. The upstairs is all one long room with no doors - kitchen, common area with bathrooms, bunks. Luckily there were not many people when I was there so it wasn't too noisy. The bottom bunks/cabins lock from the inside and have a light, shelf, electric outlet, and hook. The upstairs bunks have a curtain rod hanging over the bed - nothing else, and no place to store anything except on the bed. The kitchen is sparse (only 5 bowls) and the appliances will short circuit if more than 2 are used at once, so you can't cook much.

I am very impressed with the cleanliness of the facility.

Unable to sleep. Ear plugs for sleeping should be offered at check-in. Too many people to keep happy. Too hot, people shut off AC unit at night, no air flow, open doors but people close them, top bunks are not for older people, difficult to get up and down. Person under me slept with light on which shines up into the top bunk. Not a terrible place, shouldn’t spend more than 2 nights.

It had all the necessary, albeit very basic, amenities at a fraction of the cost!

As with any hostel experience, there will always be some unwanted (unappreciated) noise.

Close walking distance to some local eateries and a great view from the back yard, clean beds & clean showers, nice communal areas

Make sure you know what beds you’re booking if on bookings.com, paid top dollar for the bottom bunks that lock and were placed in the top bunks and told it was a premium to upgrade to the bottom bunks which one of us paid just to have a lock on the bunk which didn’t even actually work & neither did the doorpad lock downstairs so anyone could just walk in this place at any given time which we didn’t like.

I liked the privacy of the lower bunk, the personal light fixture, fan and side table. There was also adequate room for a pack or small suitcase within this lower bunk area. The kitchen was large enough for a number of guests if they were there at the same time and I had sufficient space to store perishable food items in the fridge and freezer.

I would not recommend the upper bunk based upon what I observed during my stay as the ceiling is very low and there is really no place to stow a pack or suitcase or hang a towel to dry after shower in reasonable proximity with lockers located on the lower floor and a distance from the bunks. The lockers themselves are quite narrow and may not accommodate a medium sized suitcase. The lower bunk door could be locked from the inside but not from the outside. The addition of a padlock to the lower bunk sliding door (similar to that provided for the lower floor lockers) would be a significant improvement. During my stay I needed to store my luggage each day in my vehicle, bringing it up again each night for the duration of my stay. There were not many guests during my visit but had it been a "full house" I expect that the two showers/sinks/toilets for each gender (male and female) would become problematic in the morning hours. The washrooms could be renovated to work for all guests regardless of gender if a locking door was added to the shower stalls. Additionally, it was necessary to run the shower for two to three minutes before any warm water was available. I suggest that the cause of this be investigated to reduce needless water waste.
