The location is ok

The hostel in itself is bad but ok for a few nights, (showers are not functioning properly, room is too hot even in January - and I'm not using AC at home -, customers are drunk/drugged dodgy people, not proper outlet next to the bed, breakfast is more than basic, the electric is making a weird nose h24 just next to the head bed, plenty of bed bugs, etc), but the real issue is the staff. The girl at reception is lovely but didn't give me a code to enter back at the hostel, and she didn't tell me the hostel was closing after midnight (on booking and Google maps it says there's no curfew and it's open 24/7, so I didn't think to ask for a code or a key). After spending 2 nights there I tried to come back at 1 am, after ONE HOUR waiting outside, calling the number provided, knocking on the door, the owner finally came to open the door, was really aggressive, called me a liar because "every customer has been given the code to open the door", said that she never saw me before (I've been saluting her every time I saw her for the past two days, but she probably takes too much pills or alcohol), refused to speak in English saying I could speak Spanish, and threatened to call the police on me because a friend had the kindness to wait with me outside for 1 hour. She also told me that I had to leave the next day at 10am, despite booking.com saying the checkout was at 11. She yelled at me for 10 minutes, threatening me, then when I had the audacity to reply to her she told me that I was not allowed to speak because her daughter was sleeping (not a problem though when she was screaming calling me a liar etc?!) and kept trying to lie and blame me. I wouldn't be surprised if she replies some lies to this review.

When I left it

Most of all the staff was very rude, never welcoming, always absent, not caring at all. I won’t suggest it to anyone. Worst experience in my life!

The volunteers running the place were helpful and tried their best. Not much beside them as the place had a bedbug infestation during my stay.

Generally ok. But hostel should be close until problem with bedbugs will be sorted out.

After checking in, the people living there warned me about bedbugs and that I would definitely be bitten at night. I saw several people showing bites. Nobody warned me about this before. I decided to change the hotel the same day because I was afraid that I would bring these bedbugs home.

I actually had a great time, beds are comfi, staff is friendly and pays attention, I would come again anytime

You sit like an Idiot on the toilets. Make the hot water in the kitchen not so hot, burned my hand twice.

Place generally filthy, infested with bedbugs and cocroaches, I've had more than 100 bites, all swollen. The staff started to clean the place only after my comments. Smokers regularly in front of the doors so the fumes get inside. TV played loudly till after midnight. Impossible to have some rest in this place.

NOTHING! Staying there was a really NIGHTMARE!

The check-in took so long because the scanner didn’t work. The guy didn’t even say hi or welcome. The bathrooms were in a badly condition and very unhygienic. The shared room was so smelly you couldn’t breathe. There are people leaving there for months and they were very high and screaming all the time. The worst part was the bed. I have always been feared for the bed bugs and I always check the bed before sleeping. Because the lights were on I couldn’t see any (because they hide and are active only when is dark). But in the morning I felt like a bite in my arm and saw a small tiny red bed bug on my bed. Afterwards I turned my cellphone light on and saw in the bed frame SEVERAL huge black bed bugs running around the bed frame!!! I was never been so disgusted in my entire life :S I took a shower and left. I put my pijama in a plastic bag and took it directly to the laundry to wash it with 90 degrees to kill any left bed bugs eggs or anything else that might could be sticked. Even if you can’t find another affordable accommodation in el Medano, please don’t stay there. I would better recommend to sleep in a bench on the street. I still think now and then in how awful was there and I become chills. I will definitely need therapy to forget the worst experience while traveling abroad :’(
