Pearl Villa Rooms and Hostel

Wonderful, wonderful experience - with the staff, the rooms, the cleanliness, the ambience, the open spaces, the facilities, the kitchen. I cannot not recommend this enough. One of the best stay experiences I have had. Plus: The main staff (I did not catch his name) is extremely sweet and helpful. He gave detailed answers to each of my queries, and helped make the accommodation feel homely, welcoming and safe.

The shower+washroom downstairs could have been maintained better- it was smelly. I would also recommend adding an extra shower for the dormitories, as there is only one currently.

The location of the hostel is great, and I appreciated the spacious room and the terrace nearby. I made great friends there - that was the best part.

Firstly, when booking, the listing stated that I was reserving a bed in a female-only dormitory with three beds in total. Upon arrival, I found that the room had more beds and was mixed-gender. This was disappointing, as I specifically chose this hostel for the female-only dorm option. Secondly, I was assigned a top bunk bed (second from the bottom), which was incredibly high and difficult to access. The vertical ladder was steep and not practical, especially for such a tall bunk. This is the first time I’ve seen bunk beds positioned so high. The mattress was another issue. It was so thin that it felt like sleeping directly on wooden planks. I’ve been traveling across Sri Lanka for a month and am familiar with different standards, especially in budget accommodations. I’m not a picky traveler, but this level of discomfort stood out.

Staff was good. Property is surrounded by lush. You will see peacocks and monitor lizard around the property.

No washroom in the room or up floor, we have to go down to use it. Less fans and lights in the hostel, poor build.

Hotel has a really good location, in the end of the main shopping streets and also in the beginning of the trail to the Jungle beach. Unawatuna beach is just a few minutes walk. Also very nice cafes and small shops around. It was nice to walk around as solo female in the evening as the streets around are really safe (basically tourist streets). The villa was very beautiful and roomy, the dorm room was one of the best I have been to. Dorm has toilet, but shower is outside in a separate house. Staff was friendly and professional.

The mattress was little too thin for me.

A lot of space in a dormitory with a beautiful lounge area upstairs. Great value for money.

There was a mess in the kitchen and in general. Not heated shower outside of the house.

I booked a female 3 bed dormitory but was instead accommodated into a huge 7-8 bed mixed dorm so it was deceiving to what they presented on booking

Good location, not noisy from the road, but still in the center. Amazing and helpful hosts, kitchen available, nice common space. Cozy area.
