Surfing Wombats

Love the vibe of the hostel . The restaurant they have is delicious , the pizza were WOW so good & same for the breakfast ! Good facilities; free water , ping pong table , little shop , chill zone ,good wifi , every basics you need in the private room, nice staff & they organize jam night , movie night and else.

The pillows are sooo hard ( we should have asked for others ones ). It can quickly become smelly if we don't air and ventilate. Otherwise everything was fine !

It’s up to your preference but I didn’t like the fact that my bed in the dorm was almost seperate to everyone else’s, which is a good and a bad thing but as first time solo backpacker this meant it was harder to socialise. Only a 1/9 chance of this and definitely still had an amazing time don’t let this put you off at all

Cool place with laid back atmosphere and lots of social events and activities offered, obviously loved by surfers and backpackers and the young-and-active crowd. The kitties in/around the dorm were a definite plus for me, personally.

All the staff, especially Justin the manager, are really very kind and welcoming. There is a festive and supportive atmosphere, you quickly feel included in the group. Good humor reigns there at all times! At first I was in a tent, which was a little hot in the mornings, but very affordable. I changed to a private room with bathroom and it suited my needs better.

Firstly the hostel looks different than the pictures, in a good way. They did lots of renovation after the available pictures on Booking. The general atmosphere is like a cool cafe. It is a very comfortable and clean hostel with twin-size bunk beds. The owners are super nice and friendly. They have ping pong tournaments every Friday night and open mic every Tuesday night. I was there at the ping pong tournament and it was so much fun with the excellent presentation of Justin! Such a high-energy person The location is called Midigama, in the middle of Ahangama and Weligama. It’s easy to cycle around (they have two cycles for the guest to use) or catch a local bus (they pass every few minutes in both directions) or a tuk-tuk, or you can rent a motorbike to reach the nearby places. There is a surf spot within walking distance (and there are few shops around to rent a surfboard, I haven’t seen any schools though)

There is no kitchen and the restaurant in the hostel is -very- expensive (a pizza costs 2800-5000 lkr) and I didn’t find the vibe of the restaurant matching with the energy of a hostel. (It’s a modern and cool Italian restaurant -with lots of healthy options) I didn’t prefer to stay there longer because there is not much to do within walking distance, and I preferred to be in a more central area. I could have chosen to spend several weeks if the restaurant was cheaper or the location was more central (closer to food&supermarket options)
