ROOM Ijen Hostel

The staff is amazing, the breakfast also! Good beds, rooms with 2 beds. A big mirror, a kitchen that you can use and hot water. The location is great, near the train station, but far from restaurants and markets. So, you have to decide what you want. It was really good and I recommend.

Bathrooms could be cleaner

I’ll just start by saying I have travelled for 6 months in Asia and have rarely given a 10/10 review. This hostel absolutely changed that for us. The room was spotless, the AC worked, the bathrooms were clean, everything was comfortable. There is a rooftop terrace which was cosy and nice. There’s a kitchen with filtered water and a fridge everyone can use. Wifi was great. Showers were clean and good pressure. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and well seasoned. The lady who cooks is so friendly and makes great food. It was great because the staff were really friendly and honest with us too. We had the option to book Ijen tours but we were told that we could feasibly do it ourselves and we were told what to do to prepare… where to get a bike, gas masks and torches, what price to expect, which areas of the volcano are closed etc. The kindness and honesty of the staff bumped our experience up to a 10/10 - so many other hostels would rather sell you their tour than admit you can do it alone. We appreciated it so much and did Ijen for a total of 150K. If we ever return to Banyuwangi we will stay at ROOM again, I would recommend it to any traveller heading this way.

The only negative was Americans shouting in the corridor outside our room, which woke us up 3 times and was ridiculous. It isn’t reflective of the hostel, but guests should be quiet as the tours are at night and people need to sleep!

The owners of the homestay, Mira and her husband, are wonderful people. They will go beyond to help you with all your questions. They arranged my Ijen tour, and we had an amazing guide, he even made fresh coffee and tea on the top! I could only recommend to stay here

Best hostel in java, helped me with everything, so lovely

Mira's (the host) hospitality is remarkable. The room and shared bathroom was clean. Breakfast was delicious.
