"Dorm from hell"

1.0

The staff were agreeable with checking me in 2 hours early (immediately). I appreciated the roof over my head , having a shower daily, being able to enjoy a hot cup of tea in the morning, and being able to watch TV. I enjoyed the company of the diverse group of travelers and locals who came and went throughout the week.

1) The "beds" are homemade cubicles made of fiberboard with flimsy mattresses. The bottom bunk is a mattress on the floor, the middle bunk had limited space, and the top bunk was a high climb for me (I'm 62). The middle bunk reminded me of when Cosmo Kramer hosted 3 Japanese men in the Seinfeld episode, "The Checks." I chose the middle on the first night and almost had a panic attack. I was unable to sleep in it. 2) The next night, I left my bags in the middle and tried the top bunk. It was roomier, not on the floor, and there was a handle that made the climb easier. Unbeknownst to me, the host moved my belongings into the proper storage space a half-hour after I fell asleep. He didn't appreciate the unannounced move or having to change the fitted sheet, pillow case, and the tiny rag of a towel provided. If it were my job, I would have waited until the morning and asked the guest to move their own things. The host thought it was of utmost importance to have that bed ready in case someone checked in after midnight (Monday). Two of the bunks in the six "bed" unit were occupied, and this room had a second unit of 6 "beds" with empties. When I woke up and couldn't find my bags, I began frantically texting the host. He was right there... because he lives there! He admonished me for the unannounced move, explaining how he needed the free bed. 3) I thought I booked a bunk in the smaller, 6 "bed" room. The check-in instructions read Room #1, so that's where I went. The host said he could refund my money , but that would have put me on the streets of Philly with nowhere to go (my funds were limited). He insisted I did book the 12 bed room because my room was #1. So, I shut up and followed his rules for the rest of the week. 4) Two times, I thought I'd puke. One of the first mornings, somebody left a pan with fermenting bacteria on the stove.
