Waitomo Homestead Cabins

Große Küche mit guter Ausstattung, Cabins sauber mit angenehmen Betten, große warme Duschen.

The location was OK, views out the back overlooking the country were nice.

On arrival the homestead may look appealing but we had to wait for the staff to stop chin wagging in the office (20 minutes) to get some service and our key to the room. (They gave us the wrong room to begin with) there’s no parking near the cabins either. The layout of the cabins wasn’t thought out very thoroughly, as a lot of them are west facing a cop the afternoon sun pretty badly, this in combination with lack of air con or ceiling fans (pedestal fan was supplied but made zero difference) made for a horrible stay during the day time. We had to go into town for a few more hours so that we weren’t sitting at our accomodation cooking ourselves. Opening the windows Is not an option due to ZERO fly screens to stop bugs coming into our space, very annoying and not thought out at all. The mattress was thin and hard. The pillows are all way too thin, uncomfortable and don’t hold their form very well.

Very disappointing. Paid for a private toilet and shower however when we went to shower in the morning there was no hot water. Messaged the property owner and no response till this day. Bed had a spring sticking out and you could feel it while sleeping. Pillows also had stains

Clean and quaint mini-house style rooms, I had the ensuite and bathroom was adequate. Looking out the windows at cows and the countryside was charming, but I stayed only one night so didn’t get to enjoy the other amenities or a coffee overlooking the pasture.

Main building with food and other stuff closed at 4, so no services were available- fine if you have a car and can go tour around or find a restaurant but there’s nothing else on property from what I could see. It’s a shame because the garden around the main building was beautiful! I (single woman) felt insecure since there were no other cars in the lot when I returned from caving- but a car or two in staff parking area after dinner and a provided security phone # was somewhat reassuring!

No after hours support. No after hours number. No access to booked accommodation after hours. No way to get them to place the key somewhere for after hours due to lack of communication via email either. Had to book somewhere else to stay the night
