Don Som Riverside Guesthouse

What a place to be! This couple made something great on this beautiful island! I enjoyes my three days there. Because it was very hot, I spend the days mostly with swimming and hanging around in my hammock reading pr sleeping. But you can do lots of things at the guesthouse (cookingclasses, meet new people etc) or on the island (discover by motobike, walking etc.). Very recommended to spend a few days there and just enjoying slow life!

Amazing location, as this is the only guesthouse on the island. You can rent a scooter and go around the island, while locals are waving at you. The hosts Tanoi and Sander are the kindest, helping our every way possible and made my stay very special and welcoming. In the evening most of the guests have dinner there, when we could chat and I’ve made some good friends. And in the morning I’ve seen one of the most beautiful sunrises from the bungalow on the river, so I can recommend staying here 100%

Tanoi and Sander are the most exceptional hosts. Extremely helpful and thoughtful. They have created a guest house that is extremely relaxing but also thought provoking and politically and economically mindful.

The ethos and culture of the guest house are so positive that everything else seems secondary

Sander and Tanoi are lovely and super helpful. A true Laotian experience off the grid. Food is great and affordable. We wished we stayed longer. Sunrise is astonishing. Just enjoy and relax. Tip: rent a bike in don det and spend at least 3 nights there. Bring some school supplies for children if you can :)

This is a special place and a must stay when visiting the 4000 Islands. The property is beautiful and the hosts and staff are super friendly and accommodating. The locals in the villages, especially the kids, are super friendly and it's really fun to ride bikes slowly around the island.

My favourite place to stay in Laos! Beautiful surroundings, lovely accommodation, comfortable and clean. Fantastic food and conversations shared at a communal table with the best view. The owners are lovely and they are doing so much to help the local community. They are happy to help you with anything and they are great to chat with to learn more about the local life and Laos in general. I really enjoyed my time here and hope to return one day to volunteer at their community projects.

The owners are very helpful and will help you with getting to the island (ferry, etc). The shared bathroom is exceptionally clean, and there is a hot shower. My room was large, and the bed was comfortable. The people staying in the hotel usually eat together in the common area at night. This made it easy to meet people and talk to other guests. The hotel also has hammocks, books, and board games. The island the guest house it on is beautiful and the people are very kind. If you rent a scooter or bike, it is easy to get to the other islands. The food provided by the guesthouse is excellent and fairly priced. Great place to relax, meet other travelers, and enjoy the best of Southern Laos. They also provide cooking classes and fishing. The owner provides free drinking water. Bring your own reusable bottle if you can. Otherwise you can fill your plastic water bottle. I
