Ambiance , convivialité, c'est exactement l'esprit auberge de jeunesse. Je recommande vivement cet hostel.

"Don't be fooled by the high score, it's still a hostel in Dahab"

5.0

People rate this hostel highly because of the social aspect, but we should talk about the rest of the stay. The social part is nice, there is a whatsapp group and communal areas, and they set up social events and activities almost every day. Most of these are common tourist activities you can book anywhere else, but they also have yoga and family dinners and things that let you bond with other hostel guests. Unfortunately, they are almost all in the evening, so if you work American hours like me, you're going to miss them all. The balcony private room has plenty of light from the many windows. My favorite part of the stay was chilling with the kitten Cookie, but unfortunately they say they are going to not allow the strays on the property anymore. Breakfast is OK, made in the small communal kitchen each morning, eggs and beans and a couple other native dishes.

I asked to rent a towel the first day I checked in, and for a rack that was missing from my closet to hang clothes, and a door stop because the wind kept slamming the balcony door shut. They assured me they would take care of it, but I never heard from them again, and had to go back for the towel the next day. The shared bathroom has a tiny shower platform right next to the toilet which is quite dirty and discolored. The windows and doors in the rooms have gaps, meaning the very loud noise from the main street and cars comes in all night. It also means the mosquitos will come in and eat you alive while you sleep. Nothing to do about it but spray yourself with DEET before bed, which sucks. The wifi is not reliable for work, tho it is decent for Dahab, it will cut out and be unusable for 10 minutes at a time, throughout the day, so not good for meetings. The seats on the balcony are very dusty and dirty, if you sit on them your pants will change color. The back of the chair for the desk was broken so you can't lean back, I had to steal another chair so I could work. The wind is nice but the windows and doors have nothing to hold them open, so they will constantly slam open and closed very loudly unless you keep them closed. They are old and the wood is warped so good luck closing them! The location is right off the major street where the cars drive, not close to the beach or the restaurants. You save only a little bit for a private room here compared to many other options with better locations and quality. I think the only appeal of this place is staying in the shared rooms as someone hoping to meet and join a community.
