The Funky Monkey Hostel

At Funky Monkey in Anjuna, solo but never alone, I felt welcomed into nature’s embrace with the deepest gratitude. Each rain-kissed morning, as I sipped chai in the outdoor common area, I was met by birdsong and fresh, earthy air—a simple yet profound joy. The daily activities, from sip and paint to beer pong, were gifts of laughter and connection, turning strangers into friends effortlessly. Guided by hosts who generously shared Goa’s hidden gems, from hilltop sunrises to each evening’s easy camaraderie, I’m thankful for every moment. Funky Monkey offered a home where nature, friendship, and joy unfolded perfectly, leaving my heart full.

The stay was fabulous very honestly, more than the stay I would say the people I met there were absolute gems. The structure of the entire hostel definitely facilitates early ice breaks. Everybody hangs out in the chilling area and that’s how you meet new people. As the bar, the reception and the chilling area are at the same spot lead to more interactions and you end up befriending almost everyone. The chilling area is small so, you tend to sit close to each other and end up talking with fellow travellers. At night the entire hostel crowd goes to places for partying and that’s quite fun if you are looking for socialising. We went to Shed, Pappi chulo, Vamos, Salud, Don Robs, Hideaway at night during my stay of 5 nights. Every night we went somewhere. It was a great experience, will definitely visit the hostel again in the future. P.S. there are so many cute cats all over the hostel, you would definitely have more fun if you are a cat person

If you wake up late then most likely you won’t be able to shower because of the water shortage but that’s fine. The dorms do not have tube lights, they have lamps which keep the vibe of the room mellow but sometimes you really need tube lights to find stuff in your bag then you have to open the door

Loved everything about the places! The location, the interiors, the maintenance, staff, volunteers etc everything was beautiful and amazing! I met people that became almost like family and I had an amazing time! I travelled solo to Goa for my birthday and I didn't have any expectations from the trip. But meeting these people felt like a dream!

The washrooms were not clean & had cockroaches on the ground. Overall the reception & clubhouse was good. The bed on the upper desk was a bit difficult to reach out, My friend fell as well because of it.

Club house vibe was decent, however it didn't have cooling.

I stayed a couple of days at the Funky Monkey Hostel and I had the best time. The hostel is on a quiet location but still close to town. One thing I really liked about the hostel is the activities that they organize. As a solo traveler this is great since I get to meet a lot of people. One night we did Sip and Paint, during this activity I met other travelers and all of us decided to have a drink in the town afterwards. The best thing about the hostel is the staff, they spend a lot of time with the travelers. This makes it feel like the staff are also travelers. I participated in many activities with the staff and went out with them a couple of times. They make sure that there is the a great vibe at the hostel. If you are a solo traveler and you want to meet new people, you should 100% come to the funky monkey hostel. If I ever come back to Goa I will stay here again for sure.
