I didn’t notice this mentioned a lot in the other reviews but this is 100% a party hostel, with many of the guests staying long term as they get caught up in the partying and keep extending. If that’s your vibe, great, be prepared that people are up and partying in the common hours at all hours of the night. If you’re looking for somewhere more chilled or balanced, you may want to look elsewhere. There is very limited common space and it’s almost always crowded and very loud, so no place to relax or unwind after a long day. The facilities are prettttyyy grungy, at times gross, but the staff do a good job of maintaining cleanliness to a decrepit building. The best thing about this hostel is the location, within short walking distance to the cool Fitzroy and Collingwood neighbourhoods, and a big park across the street. Choose wisely!

I should mention that most of the long term guests are having to check out next week since the hostel owners have decided to double the price for the duration of the Formula One race happening in Melbourne, how nice! $600/week for a grungy hostel bunk bed seems criminal to me.

Decently run hostel with a good community of guests, had no issues with the accomodation in terms of organisation. Staff were professional and quick to help with any problems. Great location (can't stress this enough, walking distance from the CBD, Carlton, Fitzroy nightlife, etc) and a large sized building, so a lot of space to socialise and relax. No issue with extending the booking from the front desk, which is always a relief. Accom is cheap for what they're offering and well worth the money for people seeking short or long term lodging. I've stayed and worked at much shoddier places that were charging out the ear with none of the perks of the Nunnery, so take advantage of this place when you're staying in the city.

Normal issues with basically any hostel, noise from guests and some issues of hygiene due to the amount of people being housed at any given time (they have cleaners working every day so it's more the nature of the beast with your common backpackers than a fault of the staff or management).

Great location. Beautiful old building. Quite “cheap” for Melbourne.

Small dirty rooms (the one downstairs next backyard at least) with a small dirty bathroom attached. The aggressive receptionist who comes and pull you out of bed if you’re 5mn late to check out, on top the hostile personal note on your door to remind you to check out.
