The first flag that I should have seen was the lack of communication from the property when I booked. It was confirmed all right and I put in the time I will be there. The second red flag when I arrived at the address was the lack of signage that this was the place. No name no number. When I called the property a Portuguese lady answered but since I didnt speak Portuguese and she did not speak English there was no communication. I ended standing outside and knocking on neighbours doors asking about Lar dois Coracoes. Eventually the property lady showed up and we had a broken communication using Google Translate. The so called hotel was divided into 7 different apartments which houses tourists and more long term residents. The room that I got did not matche the description at all, it was much smaller and was outdated by about 30 years. There is a balcony that is shared with the whole floor so there is no privacy. The facilities are mediocre. There is a bathroom, with a cracked mirror, an old jacuzzi/shower combo from the esrly 90s with a slippery and gummy shower pad. I am not exactly sure if it was clean or not. It also takes a bit of skill to get the right water temperature. The kitchen was all right no complaints there. Most important the lift has been broken since the day building was built and is used as a storage for all kinds of junk. If you have heavy baggage beware.

The elevator is broken & very old, you have to carry your suitcase/bags up three flights of stairs, no a/c , only one power point working , you have to wait 5mins of wasting water to get warm water, you got many workers sleeping on the balcony , so at $230 EURO a night , its disappointing

The owner of the hostel was very friendly and accommodating. The location is in a quiet, decent neighborhood and there are some restaurants near-by which are walkable.

The shower was quite confusing to use. Also, since there are other guests that share the floor it can be loud at times depending on the guests. Keep in mind that the host only speaks portuguese and while she was very polite, it was hard to communicate without some sort of translation app.

Authentic place, really gives you towns spirit. Big nice terass with good view. Lot of place to park car outside. Good restorant 50 meters away, supermarket 200 meters. And fantastic owner.

Shower was broken in the bathroom and not fixed to the wall.

Very kind staff. Very clean room, bathroom, & kitchen. Nice big veranda. Kitchen was well equipped and user-friendly. The neighborhood is lovely- right on a train line, lots of restaurants, cafes, bakeries, etc. Nice residential area.

Not necessarily bad things, just things to know before staying: guest house is on the 4th floor of a building with no elevator. 20ish minute walk to Torre de Belem, 10min walk, then 15ish minute train ride (not included in metro passes) to Alfama, the heart of the tourist center. Parking was tough to figure out, but it turns out there are two nice lots not too far away, but we didn't know that the first night and got stuck driving around.
