My stay was amazing. If I could, I would have extended my stay. The view and the location is amazing and the owners are so lovely. You feel like home far away from home from the first second. The best hostel I‘ve stayed during my 4 weeks in New Zealand.

Fantastic location, beautiful outside space with lovely views. Kitchen well equipped.

- No security at all, front door and doors to rooms left open, dorms had no locks or lockers to secure valuables. Ground floor dorm room with open doors and windows all day did not feel secure. -Lots of flies everywhere including the kitchen and around beds when sleeping -Dorm room advertised as sleeping 4 but actually had 5 beds, very minimal space, no storage or any lights/curtains/plug points by bed space - only 2 toilets and 2 showers for the whole hostel, water pressure was terrible and the water cold - signage everywhere saying bathroom closed from 10-1045am, we had planned our morning accordingly only to find that the bathroom and kitchen were both closed between 945am and nearly 1130am. No other toilets or sinks, asked passive aggressively by staff if we hadn't read the signs when trying to fill our water bottles in the kitchen. Signs clearly stated a time that had already passed and all facilities had been closed for over an hour. Staff said it was because they were training new volunteers and were behind schedule, completely understand this however felt ridiculous that we had no access to water or toilets for such an extended period of time.

Simple classical hostel metal bed frames that move/shake quite easily when the bottom or top person is turning

I had the solo/unshared room and it was reasonably sized and comfy. The homestay is quaint and cozy with shared living space, yard, and kitchen. Has a beautiful view of the ocean and a short walk from everything in Kaikoura.

Nice staff, let me hang out in the common area while I was waiting for my train and it was bad weather outside. I had private room, that was nice with nice view. Great areas to eat also outside.
