Orcades Hostel

It is conveniently located with a path to the three major supermarkets. It is beside the Pickaquoy Centre and sports fields. It’s good value for money. It’s very clean although there were annoying handprints on the window!

Dont be put off by the Hostel title, this place is on par with a 3star hitel. The welcome and keyless door entry system were great. Building was ideally located. Inside was bright, warm and welcoming. The room I had was very well equipped. Comfortable bed and great night's sleep. Sorry I couldn't stay longer

Did not have breakfast but the price was cheaper and much much better room than other nearby hotels

My fault I should have booked a ground floor room as I have to use a stick but will do next time

The kitchen is modern, spacious and well equipped. Water is dangerously hot. The Dining room/ living room is roomy warm and comfortable I was the only one around when I was having supper. I had the impression that there was only one or 2 others in the building. It was quiet and close to Grocery stores and bus connections.

The bedroom was a BIG disappointment.I was booked into Rm 4 I thought I booked a twin room as pictured in the room choices. I was shocked to find that it contained 2 bunk beds that you couldn't sit up in. As a senior with back and neck issues this was very hard on me. I looked up their ad on Booking. Com and found the same ad up with the 2 twins with the purple blankets on the beds. Apparently still available. Seemed like false advertising to me. I had paid extra for twin/ single beds because I knew bunkbeds would be too hard on me. My phone was down to 4% and there was no USB plugs or adapter to charge with. I had left my old one in my lockered luggage at the Ferry. Fortunately Tesco Superstore is close by and I was able to buy another one for £10. Slower charger that unfortunately got left behind in my rush for checking out and getting the bus. They should keep this on hand in the kitchen or something. I couldn't get the T.V. to work. There were no instructions for turning on the heater or working the T.V. Randomly, I got the heater to come on but it was still cold in there. I had 2 duvet blankets on the bed and I was still cold. 4 hrs. of sleep. I couldn't get the WiFi to work . Two options for WIFI were offered , neither worked Getting through the front door was difficult.... didn't notice or see posted that one needed a star or hashtag involved. Called remote staff on buzzer outside for help with this and eventually got the door open. Later I tried to call or message somebody about all these issues but couldn't get through. Because it was a Sunday at supper time? WHY not have a booklet of instructions for each room? I couldn't find the email with the instructions after I checked into my room . Very frustrating. ..
