Orcades Hostel

We arrived to find our room had a strong smell. They were able to transfer us to another room which was helpful. The kitchen and facilities were well kept and the location was close to the grocery stores and rec centre. An easy walk into town. The biggest concern was the prevalence of cameras throughout the property. Not just at the entry but in the kitchen, common area and all parts of the building. It’s unsettling to think someone is watching and potentially listening to our conversations as we make breakfast or use any space in the hostel. Be aware of this CCTV surveillance throughout if you plan to stay.

A little bit cramped in hallways, lots of fire doors.

The beds and bedding especially in found very comfortable. Also, the carpets/floors.

Not really anything, the shower made a strange, high pitch voice when on, but I didn't find that too bothersome.

So conveniently located- walkable to everything

Parking was a bit confusing as there were no defined spaces so it was hard to tell if we parked in appropriate spots

Great price and location. Clean room.

Narrow stairs and we had to search to find the kitchen location and sitting room. It would be a good idea to sign. The shower was narrow and hard to get into for us old folks. Beds were a bit soft. But I am being thorough on this response for awareness, not negative. It was a really good stay, and we only needed a bed.
