Berggasthaus First - Only Accessible by Cable Car

This hostel is part of the top of the mountain complex. Unbelievable views from your window. Shared washroom and showers were fine. Self serve food offers as well as table service. Day trippers gone by 6pm so you have this amazing location pretty much all to yourself in the evening and early morning. Place is FULL of people before 5pm though.

A little confusing when you first arrive but friendly staff sorted me out. So many staff at the beginning of the season when I visited who I think were still learning on the job. The dinner options for hostel guests left a little to be desired so gave it a miss and ate at the self serve canteen (closes at 5).

Incredible staying. Mainly, of course, because of the energizing experience to spend the night at the mountain and explore a bit First and its cliffwalk without the so many visitors along the year. But our experience was even better with the so warming and cordial service from the staff, specially Domingos, who has been incredible with us and my daughter. Will never forget the time spent there.

Great location! Lovely to be on the top of the mountain when everyone else has left on the last cable car. Staff were all very pleasant and helpful.

No curtains in the bedroom so sleeping was difficult. Lots of flies in the dining room that really made eating there unpleasant - I think I heard the waiter telling someone that the property was being sprayed the next day. Set menu quite expensive for a very basic meal, though second night was much better than first so we may just have been unlucky with the first night.
