Vista Hostel Jeolikote, Nainital

The location and staff are great.

I was expecting a few musical nights.

We had a bad stay at vista, unfortunately. The place has a lot of potential - beautiful surroundings and nicely built place. However it's very poorly maintained and managed. During our stay we had so many serious issues, here are a few examples: - my partner and I both got sick from the food prepared in the kitchen. We ate only there for 36 hours and got sick afterwards so it could only come from there.  - we came in November, with evening temperatures dropping at very low levels, and were given a room that was poorly isolated with only a blanket available. When we raised this the staff provided as only option to "buy" an electric heater for 300 INR per night - so, basically, either we paid the room 300 rupees more or it was impossible to sleep. Moreover, none of the common areas is provided with heaters or anything that helps with the cold (unless you pay for a bonfire). So during the winter, the place is just perpetually very very cold. - the bed is super uncomfortable, with a very thin mattress and very poor frame. We had the worst sleep in over 3 months of travel in India. - there were frequent delays with orders or delivery of hot water for shower without any communication and despite the fact that we were only 3 guests in the property. On our second day, food came over 2 hours late for dinner - they simply "didn't notice" the order we placed. Nothing was done or offered to make up for that. - when I asked the staff for directions to our next destination, they gave us just plain wrong information (they said to take a bus to Almora which would drop us on the way to ramnagar; you can just check any map to see that is just not true). Overall, I'd suggest staying in any of the many guesthouses in the area which I'm sure provide better service and care for guests.

Property was good. Evening and morning was amazing.

The Place, the vibe, the tranquility , the serenity, the remoteness, the staff , the food..everything was bang on..having booked a dorm stay at a hostel my expectations were not so high but the place exceeded on each and every front. since I had planned my trip during the monsoon season so I wanted a place which is remote yet accessible through road & rail transport. This place is hardly 20 Kms from Kathgodam railway station ..and yet it is remotely located..away from the hustle bustle.. This Hostel is indeed a find for me..and would definitely visit again.
