Shorebreak Hostel San Juan La Union

the exterior and interior architecture and the thoughtful combination of cold and warm (concrete and wood) are my favorite design aesthetic, so these easily & completely meet, rather exceed, my expectations.

The roof deck couldve been laid out more intentionally and thoughtfully rather than randomly (that's what it appeared to me). Colorful floor mats, low tables, decked with bean bags (in jute material) + incandescent bulbs can liven up the space more, especially at night. You have more than enough of the concrete + wood theme all around, would be refresbhing to see some color this part of the propeerty. It will encourage guests to stay longer in that zone with the cozy, laidback vibe (vs. the masakit sa pwet na kahoy furniture all around; dont get me wrong, I LOOOOOVE Filipino handcrafted wooden furniture). Perhaps a good balance in the quantity could lessen the "hardness" feeling one gets.

Convenient location, v near to most restaurants and 5 min walk to the beach. The place is v clean and v aesthetic.

It’s a not-like, but I wish they’d put mirrors in their rooms.

We had a very pleasant experience thanks to the staff and the owners who were exceptional!! They were prompt, attentive and anticipated your needs. Their facilities were clean, spacious and had a thoughtful touch to it. We loved that we could play with Billie, the golden retriever, too!

There was a short power outage from 6am-10am during our last day but to be fair it is the entire San Juan city. They had generators to back up water supply though which was essential.
