Mango Tree Hostel CTG 420

Good location, friendly and helpful staff, beautiful house, area to relax.

Kitchen was quite good but has only 1 spoon, in my room internet was weak.

good for price. there is no AC, but i like it, environmental protection. Also dogs are friendly, they do barking when you first time to come, but they also like to be pet. Cold shower is functional. And I saw a big turtle here so lovely.

for the price you pay you can't ask for any luxury and you won't get it. however, there are nice and friendly people and there is no noise in the evening.

the accommodation is not exactly the cleanest. there was a mouse in my room and it ate my snack! it is also not very pleasant to clean the bed from mouse excrement each evening. the kitchen could be cleaner and better equipped. the owner could invest in air conditioning. even with two fans it was terribly hot in the room.

The owner is a good guy who does his best

This is a great place to be if you want to be discriminated against for being from the United States or Europe. Frances, Simon and Julian are a problem. If they are here you should stay far away and spend your money somewhere where you are wanted. Examples: 1) Simon made it his personal mission to torment me while I was here. He did everything from trying to tell me I would have problems with the owner for smoking (a lie), to playing music about how life is better in the barrio without gringos, to just doing everything possible to give me a hard time. 2) Julian would take the fans and put them all on himself at night, turn off the light while I was reading and ignore me whenever I tried to confront him. 3) Frances herself is fine, but she is the girlfriend of Simon and was protecting him from any real consequences. If she wasn't here this problem wouldn't exist. The two others are technically 'guests' but are emboldened by her inability/lack of willingness to truly resolve any problems. If any of these people are here, spend your money somewhere else because they will make sure that you have a bad time.

The whole place is dirty, the toilets in particular were disgusting (the floors were black and there were flies everywhere). I've come down with something the night after our stay, it may be a coincidence but I wouldn't be surprised if the lack of cleanliness was a factor. There wasn't any toilet paper for one of the days, and couldn't find any staff to ask. There was a bad smell, I think this was from the rotting mangoes falling from the tree. There were mice. It was difficult to get in and sometimes get out of the property. We were trying to leave one morning for a booked activity but we were locked in, and we had to find and wake up the member of staff to exit. The place would really benefit from some air con- we had a couple of fans but the nights were uncomfortable. The mattress felt dirty (on the last morning I woke up covered in mite bites) and the pillow may as well not have been provided. There was no way to lock our door, fortunately we had a padlock with us that we used. The surrounding area felt unsafe, litter absolutely everywhere as well. We are normally happy to forgo the luxuries for a good price, but if you are on a budget we would suggest spending less time in Cartagena in general and moving on to somewhere nicer.

As the name describes it, "mango 4:20" is a mango/4:20 hostel. The place doesn't have a/c but, yet you'll get your own fan to keep the heat away.. The staff is ver friendly and very nice too.

The staff were very kind, especially Nicholas. There were 3 dogs which were very well looked after and added a nice atmosphere to the place
