Good location near sea, nice view on the pool

No mosquito net and quite many mosquitos flying around which was the biggest disavantage, no breakfast, the road to the hotel from the main street does not seem nice for evening walks especially single travellers.

Super nice beach view from the deluxe room! Got an upgrade from the manager. Super friendly guy and he speaks English well.

It has potential to be really good as it has a good location next to a small beach and harbour.

Property is poorly managed. Staff try their best but many of the options on the menu were not available and when we did find something they had we still had to wait over an hour for our food. First room offered had mould on walls and smelled damp. A better room was offered and accepted. Bathroom door did not shut properly, and there was no fridge in the room or hairdryer in the hotel. Bar has no licence even though it advertises its poolside bar, and sun-loungers have no pads, lots of stray cats and rubbish lying around which does not seem to be noticed! We visited in August and all the surrounding restaurants and bars were closed except in the centre of town. We were booked in for 7 days but left after 2 nights.

Photos are photoshopped and incredibly deceptive. It's a very small hotel, completely run down. The room has an unbearable mould smell and everything is shabby. It's not on the beach. Beach is close by but you can't swim there, stray dogs everywhere. The town is rough. The pool is nice but there's something added in the water that is rough on the skin. I would suggest to stay in Galle instead. Please don't stay here. I nearly rebooked my tickets to go straight back home as I got the worst impression of Sri Lanka here.

I really enjoyed my stay at Shangrela beach resort. I spent two nights here during my 3 week vacation and I have no complaints. The staff were exceptional, attentive, kind, friendly and always willing to help. I stayed in a family room with two double beds as I was supposed to have 3 friends staying with me, however due to illness they stayed at our volunteer house. The beds were extremely comfortable, sheets were clean, and pillows very soft! The facilities in the room were basic, however just what we needed. My only issue was the bathroom, there were a lot of ants, and one morning I woke to a very large spider in the bathroom, to which I had to get the staff to remove for me. There was a piece of mesh that covered a part of the window which wasn’t properly secured therefore was a way in for insects. Otherwise I have no concerns. It’s a great place for solo travellers, and for short stays. The location is perfect and a very short distance walk to the main high street, shop (keels- supermarket), ATM, mask museum, and across the road from the beach. Additionally less than 30 seconds down the road is a disabled turtle home, I visited here only first morning and got to see some of the turtles that are unable to be released back into the ocean, the owner discussed some of the concerns and showed genuine care for the animals. It was free to enter here and great to break up your morning. Finally I would like to add that the food offered within the menu was brilliant. All food freshly cooked and absolutely delicious!! Thanks so much for a lovely stay! ☺️

The bathroom could do with some work, otherwise nil. I was very happy with my stay.
