The 8th Maine Regiment Lodge and Museum

this is a beautiful island and a special place difficult to measure in standard ratings. it is “together”: cooking, playing, talking sitting outside. in this historical place you cannot expect a Hilton standard and those who don’t have a great time and surely an impression that lasts for long. we loved it! thanks Dawn!

The sea view - you can eat your dinner on the porch or on a chair by the water. The location couldn't be better. The fully-equipped kitchens for each guest are life-savers!

At first showering outside felt like a bit of a nuisance. But, like the host said, it's the best shower in the house! You can see the ocean as you shower - so fun!

Rooms could use a good vacuuming

It’s a great place where you get a really unique experience. You get a feeling of travelling through time not only moving geographically. The great hall full of historic objects, rooms, common kitchen and balconies that are kept in the same way there were hundred years ago. You don’t get as much comfort as you would get in a modern hotel but you get something much more valuable if you are interested in history and authenticity. People who stay there are very aware of some reduced comfort capacity and are very nice and gentle with each other. The lady who is running the place with her husband is super nice and knowledgable and it’s a great pleasure talking to her. It was also very relaxing to spent some early morning hours on the terrace watching the sun rise.

I can’t even name anything that could be done better. It’s a historical house that is used only in warm season and that is run and maintained with care and love.

Bathrooms were small/shared but the size of the era

Super friendly and accommodating hostess, very clean, amazing location, beautiful views, porches and balconies everywhere, great museum.

No air conditioning, shared bathroom was unisex for a portion of the time, shower so small I could barely turn around. Coffee could be had, but down 2 different steep sets of stairs.

Everything about the Maine was fantastic. The location is ideal: A quick bike ride/walk from the ferry and it sits directly on the ocean: Views are amazing. The staff (Dawn and her husband) couldn't have been more accomodating...excellent.
