Visiwa Beach Resort

Hotel was very clean, bedroom cleaned each day and nets pulled down each evening. lovely views of the bay, we had a view of the sea, as well as the pool. Quiet location, we had great sleeps. Shower was powerful, tea & coffee in the room. We had breakfast included which was a mix of continental buffet and ordered cooked breakfast. We ate here three evenings and had drinks throughout, all reasonable. Food was very tasty, we had the Italian pizza & pasta, but also had a fantastic lobster. We stayed around the pool and also lay on the beds over looking the bay which was excellent. It looks like work is being done to keep this hotel in good condition ready for high season. We walked to the golf a couple of times, walked along the bay, and to the local supermarket. Staff were very attentive and went out of their way to ensure our stay was comfortable and to anything we wanted.

Be careful of booking boat trips- On 15 May, we booked a trip through the hotel’s associated operator (Amici Travel Limited, arranged by Samuel) costing around $270. We were not made aware of any sea or weather warnings until after the trip, when we later discovered official advisories were already in place. Despite this, the excursion went ahead in extremely dangerous conditions. While crossing over the reef, the small boat was repeatedly hit by large waves and came close to capsizing several times. At points it felt as though the vessel could flip backwards, and there were no other boats operating in the area. We genuinely feared for our lives and both sustained bruising from being thrown around inside the boat. The crew also appeared to be struggling to maintain control. It is concerning that the operator proceeded despite knowing the conditions. Guest safety should never be secondary to profit. We are sharing this as a warning to other travellers, as we expected far higher safety standards from a hotel offering or promoting excursions of this kind.

Only the italian food was not my favourite, I would appreciate swahili food

The location was so excellent with very friendly staff. They helped me to get someone to move around with me and view places and the nice surprise of the upgrade was also good.
