Panglao Chocolate Hills Hostel and Resort

Really nice place with a popular evening ambience.

Pool is not really for swimming in.

The huts look like chocolate hills. The swimming pool and aunbeds

The smell of the septic tank in all the resort is so disgusting. Every time I was in the resort I felt sick (probably due to the mold spores of the septic tank). Cat poo and pee on the grass around the pool. The TV didn't work. The toilet in the hotel room has no roof so you can here and smell your partner. The "water fall" in the pool is too loud.

Novelty of staying in a round dome shapped room that looks like a chocolate hill. The AC works. The staff are friendly The stay is not near the tourist areas (don't be fooled into thinking it is quiet however) if you don't like the hustle.

The Novelty wears off after about 60 seconds or when you enter the room to smell a cocktail of feces with a hint of air freshener trying poorly to musk the smell. We suspect This is due to the Bio waste treatment system being used and in close proximity to the rooms. At least their saving the environment which is a positive. You are requested to not flush toilet paper requiring you to use the water spayer, which would be fine if the toilet seat was adult sized and not better suited in a daycare for toddlers... If you're back is buggered from carrying around your mini fridge sized back pack everywhere you travel, then the 4 inch foam mattress on a solid timber base will do no more harm. The curtains are rice paper thin and near opaque, barely stopping people seeing in let alone light, but the glass luvered windows are frosted so that makes it all better.. see the 2am photo of the window i took. Speaking of luvered windows, these do an outstanding job of blocking the symphony of roosters and chickens (I'm talking a lot) from around 4am everyday, howling street dogs at 2am, and hostel guests that come from the dorms and sit in the restaurant or Yoga area right outside our door, talking (loudly) and carrying on, running well into the evening because it wouldn't be polite to do that in the dorm area as it would keep people awake.. Cost in hiring a scooter for 400 pesos/day into your stay as your miles from anywhere accept White Beach.. After booking with booking.com with a credit card for security, on arrival to the stay i was told we could only pay by cash or PayPal. When I told them I didn't have enough cash and refused to use PayPal, they begrudgingly pulled out the credit card machine and took my payment. Don't be fooled, this is not a resort, but 100% a backpackers hostel so be warned...

For price it was quite good. People were nice, good in the restaurant was good

It was very loud, we couldn’t sleep because of the people parking motorbikes right in front of our room and chicken screening day and night

Cute little huts with very friendly stuff and delicious food.

Windows are a bit damaged so expect some noise early morning. Pool water system was only turned on a couple of times during our 4 day stay. Power sockets are very limited in the room.
