Amaya Retreat

Beautiful rooms, the quality matches the photos amazingly, nature surrounding the place is outstanding, staff were amazing and accommodating and were more than willing to help with any requests. The food was high quality though a little more expensive than in other areas.

Location and surrounding facilities are the biggest downsides, it was difficult/impossible to get a Grab or Taxi from there to the city or anywhere else around, and we needed to get the staff to contact and set up transportation to the airport, if you don't have a car or potentially a driver it will be difficult to leave. They require you to sign a document stating you will not bring in any outside food or else you'll be charged, I imagine it's because of their restaurant on-site, they don't state this anywhere when booking the room so you're left with little option but to agree when you arrive. There aren't many or any surrounding facilities in the area if you're looking for general activities or places to eat you'll struggle, I'd recommend this location as a get-away from the city and retreat, but you might find yourself struggling to find things to do if you book a long stay.

The staff are friendly and helpful and it's literally in the middle of the forest which makes it a quiet and perfect place to be in nature.

It was kinda overpriced for what we got. We thought we were going to have the entire bungalow to ourselves, but it was a 2-storey situation and there were people above us. The breakfast was not so filling. A bit far from the trekking trails and routes.

Bungalow Swiss style room was small but very nice, with a terrace and a pool to share with the bungalow next door. Nice park. Nice restaurant by the look of it.

Staff were TOTALLY inexperienced with international travelers. They had practically NO command of English and I had to use Google Translate all the time. First problem came up before our arrival: The hotel wanted a 50% down payment VIA BANK TRANSFER to a local account. They were unable to charge my card, they were unable to use booking.com. I complained to booking.com and the issue was dropped. On arrival they made me pay the entire bill up front in local currency. They made me sign an agreement that I would be penalized if I brought in food, drinks or prostitutes. (!!) The entire place was empty apart from staff and us. We went to the restaurant, had some inferior food at very high prices. The waitress had NO clue. She understood NOTHING. Service was inconsistent and slow. Food arrived before drinks. What is so difficult in opening a can of beer and a can of coke?? Breakfast was even worse. Hot coffee with milk, a rather simple order, arrived 30min later, lukewarm with some old dried condensed milk. I complained. She did non or pretended not to understand. Then I got another coffee in a long drink glass, almost cold with some fresh milk. Then I complained again. The word "hot" was apparently to hard to grasp for the lady in charge. Then she said it would take 10 minutes. We agreed. 15min later the coffee hadn't arrived. A surreal, pathetic experience with French chansons and Swiss/German Christmas decoration (!)

A pretty perfect stay away from the craziness of the city! The rooms are gorgeous and it feels like a real escape to the forest.

Amazing location in the middle of the forest, with wooden bungalows with glass walls, so you have a 360 degrees view of the tree tops around it. Food was delicious, the new restaurant manager is doing a great job and was also so kind to send us food to our room even though the restaurant was closed (at 16h00), actually the whole staff was very helpful and did their best to make us feel comfortable.
