Hotel was isolated. Not much entertainment for adults, but the kids loved the discos. The beach was close by, but the pools were freezing - not heated for this time of year. The shower head was broken, the air conditioning didn’t work properly. The food wasn’t very hot either.

My daughter and I had a couples massage with Stella and her colleague. My daughter had a chocolate massage, and I had 20 minutes of intense kneading. The experience was very pleasant. I can highly recommend it — toward the end of our stay, we’ll definitely go for the 40-minute massage as well.

The hotel is an oasis of calm. The stylish reception and lounge bar area gave a quality first impression as we were greeted by the friendliest receptionist, Athina, who welcomed us and outlined a few highlights. A well-stocked shop, great for snacks, beach accessories, and quality souvenirs, resides in the hotel lobby next to a wonderful jewellery store. Also in the main building is the spa, where we enjoyed some of the best, most relaxing massages we've ever experienced from skilful and caring masseuses, Despina, and Stella. Outside the main building the gardens are stunning and immaculate. Huge palm trees are accompanied by lime and pomegranate trees. It all feels very special. The rooms are arranged in blocks of varying proximity to the beach and pool, and of varying sizes. Our room was huge, with a large balcony overlooking the pools and the sea, with distant vast mountains. Stunning. The beach, metres from our room, is one of best I've been to in Greece. Soft, gently shelving sand into crystal clear water with enough complimentary sunbeds to ensure we never struggled to find a great spot. The buffet has a huge range of traditional Greek and other European dishes each night and lunchtime, served in a number if quaintly decorated areas: the restaurant, terraces, and taverna and pool bar. Despite the choice, we did find we bored of the similar flavours and ventured out to eat in nearby towns. Taxis are expensive, so I'd recommend utilising the hotel complimentary minibus which transports guests to different towns on different days. We spent the majority of two weeks lounging on the beach or by the pool. It's just what we wanted for this holiday after a stressful couple of years. If you're more adventurous and want to explore traditional Greek Old towns, then you may be disappointed. The only way to explore is to hire a car, and the roads are very busy and confusing. I read a review before booking that criticised the entertainment. I assumed the reviewer expected too much, but no. It really is very mediocre. More bingo and quizzes rather than live performances. Overall, if you want to mainly lounge and swim (or pedalo or jet ski), not give much thought to where to eat and drink (alcohol measures are so generous, some guests were asking for less!), with the occasional supremely relaxing massages, it's hard to fault.

The Portes Beach Hotel offers a wonderful setting for a holiday with the accommodation set within lovely gardens and only minutes away from a family pool , kiddies pool and a fabulous hotel beach. The hotel is split between the main hotel which also has the main restaurant and a lounge bar and reception and accommodation blocks leading down to the beach. Breakfast and dinner were in the main restaurant and lunch buffet style in the poolside taverna.There was also a bar at the pool and all day snacks. Accommodation Is adequate but has an over bath shower and plastic shower curtain.The bath is tiny and very difficult to turn round whilst showering and has a small window with mesh as the extractor.The bathrooms are very dated and as window and bath side are wood suffer from a bit of rotting. The balcony doors have a very clever additional fly screen allowing the doors to be open without the pests.The air conditioning is amazing. Layout. The hotel from the roadside hides a hidden gem as once through to the other entrance it is amazing. The main pool is just right and has loads of covered seating and tables for shade and also for the evening entertainment. There are loads of beds for the beach or grass area and never an issue. The kiddies pool is great as it has slides water fountains and beds for mum and dad.The kiddies club is beside it. The beach is terrific ,the water crystal clear and 100m out a reef to stand on. Food The taverna for lunch is good and the main restaurant adequate but can be repetitive. The big issue with this hotel sadly is location as it is only metres away from a dual carriageway and to get anywhere you would be better with a hire car although there is a hotel shuttle bus bookable and also service buses that require walking along the edge of the road for 200m to the bus stop,but to be aware depending on direction you might not be able to get a bus back.Taxis range between €20-30 depending on distance ie 3km was€20. For people liking an evening stroll to a local taverna this is impossible. An ideal hotel for all age groups and has everything if you want to stay on resort.

Just returned and really don’t understand the poor reviews - we’ve have been to 5 star hotels before and this hotel is just about on par. Our room was good, bed comfy and room was clean with bathroom having a walk in shower, we had a partial sea view too which was lovely, quality and choice of food was good, the grounds and areas of the hotel just lovely, all the staff very pleasant. Yes it’s isolated but you pay your money you take your choice. The animation team did there best as weather was hit and miss. We had a visit to Afitos and local bus stop is just outside the hotel with taxi back for 30 euros. Met some lovely people who have returned and likewise we will too. All in all good quality for what we paid. We were very happy and just don’t understand the bad reviews
