Funky Fish Beach & Surf Resort

I'm glad I booked a room with aircon and a hot shower. The food provided was very good, although on a 3-day revolving, fixed menu. It rained hard at night and the kitchen staff wrapped and delivered my dinner to my room saving me from getting drenched. The pool was small but clean and refreshing.

I'm a surfer so can put up with almost anything. The facilities are getting dated and the room was located at the top of a hill. You had to walk 300m from the main reception along a narrow path and vertical stairs. There is only one 9-seater boat so you are literally stuck on Malolo at the mercy of management and the boat driver. If they have staff errands to run or other guests on activities, you are stuck. Every little boat ride costs you between $60-$100FJD. It is easily 1 hour back to Denarau or Anchorage. No protection on the boat if its stormy and lots of chop. Booking counter #14 does not exist at Denarau Maria. Go to the Beachcomber counter (their partner opposite Cloud 9 counter) instead. I lost 30 mins trying to find it and almost missed the once-a-day transfer to Malolo. They Maloto Cat goes 4 times a day to Musket Cove for the same price. Then it's just a quick 10 minute boat to Funky Fish. This means you don't lose a day on the mainland to meet flight schedules.

The resort is great for a solo or budget traveller who's looking for a low key break in Malolo. The food was delicious, the staff extremely friendly and the accommodation very basic and quaint.

The location is very isolated so you're very dependent on water taxi availability

Close to surfing spots, good value for money, nice food, friendly staff and good facilities. Very relaxed place!

It was sometimes difficult to arrange stuff (rental of surfboards, boat to surf spot). On the other hand, they handled to get us a late afternoon transport for reasonable price to our next resort.

Location is great if looking for relaxing island with not much around. The three meals included were all very good. Some were basic but we always had a good meal. The bar was good. The trips and transfers booked by the reception were good. And value for money!

Funky Fish in its current state is NOT worth your money. You will leave dissapointed and be misserable during your stay. Summary: Food is Terrible Management and F.o.h are clowns The Rooms are Depressing and Dirty The Views and grounds keepers are nice. The Good : The view from the bungalows are absolutely beautiful to wake up to. It's in close proximity to cloud 9 , cast away Island, honey moon island (snorkeling) and cloud break (surfing). The grounds keepers are super friendly. But " DONT " let a few good things fool you

The Bad : The First problem : The management & Front of house are absolute monkeys and have no clue what they are doing. They have no respect for the guest. Something as simple as arranging to go snorkeling or go to cloud 9 could take you days to get a conformation if ever, and if you ever confront them about any issues they " WILL " just walk away mid sentence. The Food : it is a joke, you are paying to have meals included, but unless you love your food covered in oily grease , cooked in an unclean kitchen or taste like utter garbage then you will not enjoy the food. There is NO MENU they will serve you what ever random things they cook up. They day we arrived lunch was soggy rice , a putrid seafood and cream dish and greasy noodles thats it. The Room: From the out side the room looks nice but inside is a grey box of dispear, no decor , grey walls on all sides with just a Bible in the corner. The sheets and towels were always dirty or had stains of blood or brown on them bed bugs are included, the bathroom does its job besides the shower not draining. Please take this advice Save your self alot of money and  misery and find another Resort

Bures were nice, rooms were big enough with a large shower. Beach and pool were nice with free water sports. Lunch and dinner were good but breakfast was sad.

Breakfast was bad, very quiet and boring. Not a lot of the activities on the website were there and there was not much to do. Not a lot of opportunity for guests to interact.

The little hut on the beach was cute but very primitive with not even a stick inside to hang clothes over. We met some other travellers who were lovely.

Very unclean in the rooms, the walls were filthy and very primitive conditions. The swimming pool was full of mould and slime and you couldn’t even stand up in it without sliding over. The decks around the pool had nails and screws popping out everywhere. The food was extremely bland with very basic options - rice and curry! There was no tea and coffee or biscuits/fruit provided for morning or afternoon tea and the meal options were very limited especially if you’re vegetarian like us.
