Our visit to Assonora in North Goa included an interesting opportunity for us to experience and truly enjoy at the Club Mahindra Resort there! Well this April in 2025 for two consecutive days we went on an Eco Trail around the huge property area during the day time. The threesome of us that is, me, mom and dad together started one morning on a trail where as we kept walking we noticed the entire area was covered with beautiful green plants, flowering plants, trees and jungle fruit bearing trees as well!
The entire area was covered with trees like Jackfruits, Bananas, Kokum, Mango and creepers like Pumpkin! I had even spotted plenty of lemongrass growing around! I remembered earlier when we were young at our home; lemongrass was planted by my mom where the Red - Whiskered Bulbul, the Goan Cuckoo bird would build it’s nest on the same plant and visit us! However, when they are on this plant they should not be disturbed with sounds or loud noise. At that time, Mom would insist that we should speak softly when we were near the bird’s nest! Well, to give you readers some more information about the Red-Whiskered Bulbul in Goa, these birds are spotted around orchards, Gardens and open forests and are known for their loud, sharp “Kink-a- Joo” call and a scolding chatter song! They do have a tall, Black Crest, Red Patch behind the eye and thin black moustachial line!
All along the path there were few benches built of Laterite stone and Granite! We seated there and captured lovely photographs around the greenery and in the bright Sunlight early morning! Then, as we proceeded further Mom tasted some juicy red jungle fruits and Jamun fruits all along the way! Wow! Mum loved them as they were so sweet! Then, as we were walking we reached a lake and we spotted a rare huge bird resting on a branchlet that was protruding out of the lake! All around the lake there were other trees growing! Some cattle nearby were grazing in the fields!
There were some trees that had large leaves and others that had thin needle like blades! Pumpkins grew aplenty on the ground. Banana trees also grew in abundance in this area! All along paved tracks in this area there grew ornamental plants with leaves of different surfaces or edges and flowers of every hue! Walking along these tracks the sight seemed alluring and the intensely bright and vibrant green hues of so many plants kept us thrilled until evening! Being outdoors felt blissful. While listening to birds tweeting and in the midst of greenery as we encountered new plant species and new varieties of flowers time swept by and evening was approaching. At around 7PM it was eventide and we discovered a huge tree in the garden area which had outstretched green stalks and over them there were huge leaves! This unique tree appeared just like an outstretched fan and it looked so pretty! So, I was happy to capture Dad’s photograph just next to this tall tree! There were other enchanting green hedge plants and manicured garden plants as well.
This first day of the trail we decided to return to our room by 7:30 PM as by then, it was time for dinner. As we were walking on a stone pavement being foremost to our bedroom on either sides of this lane there were lampposts and the garden was well pruned with a variety of tall trees and even other ornamental plants! Well, Mum desired to smell few flowers from this garden on way to our bedroom. The practice was simple, snip or pinch off some flowers and smell them on your palm! It was a peaceful night this day!
We started early morning in to this enchanting thicket for yet another day of being out in the wilderness to continue the Eco trail the next day! We walked briskly and then came across few Signboards, some depicting the fauna existing in these groves mostly colorful and rare birds, some huge and some smaller creatures like the Cuckoo, the Myna, The Hornbill, The Woodpecker, The Eagle, The Owl, Parrots, and even flora about Orchids, Green Creepers, tall Palm trees, Snake plants, Kokum trees & Aubergines! Wow! That was awesome and we got a clear idea about the indigenous flora of Goa! This morning the atmostphere seemed rejuvenating and everything around looked so greenish!
Well, we continued strolling around and over there we met Bhuvan and Priyanka who were from the “Adventure Park” in this property! They said it would take around 4 hours to see the sights of this “Adventure Park.”But, we were on another action plan as we decided to keep walking until the “Watch Tower”! Wow! That would be awesome! So, once we were over there at the watch tower, we climbed a fleet of steps to the top and watched all around this stretch! It was green and lovely! For some while as we kept observing it was soothing indeed and it put us in a proper mood, tranquilizing! We clicked some more photographs! This Watch Tower was built to enable guests to spot flying bird species and we did spot some birds flying in the sky!
We kept walking ahead and whoopee we spotted a fantastic wooden Dining Deck, a broader roofless platform amidst tall trees as hotel occupancy allows visitors who can relax, order their food and dine over here with friends and families alike! This Dining deck seemed to me as an interesting option for those who would love to celebrate events of great moments! Since, it was time for lunch we decided to get back to our bedroom and on way we met one of the staff members who mentioned to us that they would begin a tree plantation drive on the 22nd of April, 2025! Mom dear was eager to be a part of this event in the wilds this time as she loves gardening so much! So, we told the person we will be attending this special event!
We even passed a pool filled with water and on it’s either sides there existed green plants and also a flowerbed filled with a variety of vibrant blooms. Besides on either sides of the same pool there were sculptures of turtles with water jetting out of it’s mouth installed over there to beautify the garden area! Each time we came across this pool whenever we ventured back onto our trail or when we would return to our bedroom! I have even captured beautiful pics of this spot! After lunch at the restaurant we were off to sleep in our room. There was accessible buggy service available at the resort! In the evening we met Mr. Manoj Mashelkar from the front office who agreed to ride us around the property on a buggy! So, we hopped on to a buggy for another kind of wild ride! This leisurely experience was certainly exciting for all of us!
The next day being the day of checkout for us we had time until 12 Noon and we decided to bond with other guests and staff for the tree plantation drive. At the area where new foliage would be planted, everyone dug out a small pit and grew few saplings or stems of certain plants. Next, they watered the plants and I captured some fascinating moments when everyone were in smiles! My Dad planted two plants and he felt very happy! This afternoon we checked out and reached back home all thrilled since, we observed the diverse flora and fauna on our Eco trail at the resort! Exploring the eco trail allowed us to appreciate the beauty of nature. We are looking forward for yet another trip to the Club Mahindra Assonora Resort in Goa!
