Maliyeckal Homestay

The vibe of this place is cozy and relaxing. The family lives on the ground floor and they make you feel home. The rooms are on first floor. We arrived sick and completely recovered here. We had the most amazing home cooked food and participated in a cooking class in their kitchen. They have a beautiful garden with many fruits, spices and vegetables. We also took a swim in a private waterfall with their son Jaan who showed us everything. We would definitely come back.

Lovely home stay experience with a super friendly family in a beautiful area surrounded by jungly forest outside of Munnar. The family provides breakfast, lunch and dinner for fair prices - all home made and delicious southern Indian food. It was a very nice stay for 2 nights with nice conversation. Perfect for solo travellers, couples and young families.

Very lovely and friendly family, that were happy to assist us whenever needed. Great tasty food and the house is surrounded by beautiful green nature. Munnar is just a 30 minutes car/bus ride away (we took the bus, which in itself was a fun experience!)

The best selling point of this place is the incredible location. It's nestled in a spice garden ( which really looks like a forest ) not far from a beautiful stream where you can bathe. The owners also strives to organise activities, cab transfers , etc. The price is also very affordable , and worth it for the location and proximity with nature. We booked a cooking class. The demonstration was really nice and the owner adhered to our dietary requirements. The owner was very lovely in organising a theatre outing with the husband dropping us for some spice shopping.

The eating arrangements, dinners were odd. We were given little food, on the second dinner some chapatti and very little curry ( that we have to share with another couple who we haven't met before ) and it felt we had to fight for it. When what was given was about to finish, then another bowl of curry was put on the table, again strange being given little by little, but I had to ask for some rice to go with it which I was surprised wasn't offered in the first place. I understand that this is a very affordable accommodation and as such meals will not be necessary plentiful and opulent, but it was odd nonetheless, a bit more generosity with portions would have been nice. Breakfast was a bit thoughtless, very frugal and basic, not very tasty. On our last day, we asked the lady to have the breakfast 45 minutes before, I understood she was busy, but she literally put a poppadoms basket on the table and nothing else. The room wasn't cleaned on our second day, not even given a bit refreshing, considering is so close to an abundance of wildlife I think it should have been as there were ants on the bed and snails in the bathroom when we got back. Also, it was super hot and stuffy.

We had a fantastic stay with a very kind and helpful family. We liked very much sharing delicious dinners on the beautiful terrace with very interesting people. Idyllic location.

The location and homestay is beautiful, nothing but the sounds of the jungle. The balcony area is a very social and welcoming atmosphere. The hosts were very friendly and smiley. A peaceful waterfall is only a short walk away. Definitely recommend staying here.

No sheet to sleep under and no hot shower which I would expect for the cost.

A homestay we will never forget! Absolutely amazing host family and such a beautiful, relaxing environment. We wish we could’ve stayed longer!

It was in a BEAUTIFUL location and the upstairs balcony is really well set up and relaxing. Jubia and Leju are an amazing team and their kids are super nice and helpful. We got sick from some banana chips we had bought on the road and they took care of us and got us water, electrolytes and helped us find a great driver to show us around when we were feeling good. We didn’t get to do the cooking class because we got sick but it sounded really cool too!!
