Maliyeckal Homestay

The location is great, right in the middle of the forest! The host was also super nice and welcoming. Th room itself is spacious and has a small balcony too. Breakfast was great! We highly recommend it if you want to have a family vibe experience!

The bed was a bit small and not super comfortable, and the bathroom a bit old! But not a big deal for us!

The common area is vibe. The staff (family) are friendly. There's a fridge, induction and other things in the common area that are useful.

Although there's sufficient hot water, it's not attached to the shower. The location isn't very close to Munnar town, so make arrangements for your travel accordingly.

If you check reviews for this place on booking.com and Google they score next to perfect. And there is a reason for this - this was the best homestay I stayed at in India and it wasn't even close! The family are so warm and kind. I ate dinner and breakfast both days and the food was AMAZING. Jubia is a talented cook. Rooms are spotless and a good size with a balcony. The only negative thing you will see people mention in their reviews is the homestays distance from Munnar. But not me! Munnar is nice, but it is BUSY. Buses, cars, people, noise, honking. This homestay is so picturesque and quiet all you can hear is birdsong. I wanted a peaceful stay in the western ghats and this is exactly what I got. The bus to Munnar is 35rupees and takes 40 minutes with unreal views all the way and they are every 10 minutes so getting there is easy. There is lots to do in the area and the family can help organise excursions too if that is what you're after. I was fortunate enough on one of mine to see 5 wild elephants drinking in the river which will stay with me forever. Thank you Jubia, Jaan and family for an amazing stay. I recently had the opportunity to stay at Maliyeckal Homestay in Munnar, and was blown away by the warmth and hospitality of the family who runs it. The whole family was so lovely, supper attentive, keen to help and make a great stay. The house itself is in a beautiful place in the middle of nature, one bus away from Munnar which is easy to take. The family suggests plenty of activities and help you plan transport, proide contacts for tours, etc. they even offer cooking classes, and the food they provide is simply delicious. The room was spacious, comfortable and had everything I needed. As a woman solo traveler, felt super safe and taken care of by the family. This place has so much soul, so much that I extended my stay. wish that I will be back in there in the future.

Wow - absolutely loved our time at Maliyeckal. It felt like a home away from home. We stayed for 3 nights. Jubia, Leju and their boys were so kind and fun. It was an amazing home nestled in the bush - very relaxing and calm. The family live downstairs and the guests are upstairs. The room and bathroom was very clean. They helped us by arranging both airport pick up and drop off to Alleppy after our stay for a reasonable price. They helped us catch the bus into town each day to go hiking (bus stop only 500m away and bus to Munnar every 10 minutes) The breakfast and dinners were so delicious and healthy. We did a cooking class with Jubia and her mother which was a highlight and we learnt a lot! 100% recommend to anyone coming to Munmar region
