Dorraine's Jerusalem Bed & Breakfast

Everything was perfect. Clean, friendly, comfortable. Good locality (old city, buses). Lady Dorraine makes me feel like being Home. I Wish I could come back! Thank you for So nice staying.

Firstly, even with directions this place was very hard to find (we had no data) and we were wandering up and down streets for hours getting sent every which way by locals. Eventually stumbling in exhausted to have our ears talked off. The host Dorraine talks non stop at you irrelevant matters without even a breath. It’s quite staggering. Yet, she could not provide answers to simple questions. Eg. where is a good place to eat in the old city? She constantly invaded our space. For example, after a long busy day, at 11pm(!) I was in bed in pjs, my friend came into the room only in his towel, fresh out of the shower and she followed him in, standing IN our room raving on about her day for a good 20 minutes. Straightening pictures in the room etc. We were absolutely gobsmacked, and literally couldn’t believe it was happening. Or, sitting the next morning drinking our coffee cuddling. Boom- off we go again. The room itself is chocoblock with the owners things with no space for two bags on the ground, let alone space to stand at the same time. They had to go under the bed. Heaven knows if I left something behind because the space is so cluttered. There was a shelf and some hanging space but the door was very difficult to slide. Owners things also in the space. After standing in a cold shower for 5 minutes I went and found Dorraine and found she needs to turn on the hot water. The next night she was out and we couldn’t get in touch and rummaged around for 15 mins trying to figure out the button. There are narrow stairs down to the room which one must be aware of. Dorraine and Barry certainly wouldn’t be able to assist as they are quite elderly. Value for money wise... Extremely disappointed.

Dorriane was a fantastic host! She really cares about her guests and is always there to help! She really enriched my experience by inviting me to their traditional dinner! The location is also extremely convenient to everything; you can walk or take public transport and get anywhere quickly. Before arrival, she sends a message that is extremely helpful telling you how to use public transport!!! Great place! I would book again in a heartbeat!

Breakfast included fresh fruit and use of all day tea/coffee hot water dispense. Great to pocket a hard boiled egg if one wasn't up for breakfast and just head out. Dorraine goes beyond the details (like how to get that outside sun shutter to work) - to really making a person feel welcome- the invite to sit int he family space and watch the sunset, extending an invitation to the local shul and making provision for a guest's lighting of Shabbat candles

A challenge even with a taxi- don't look for a business sign- this is a nice neighbourhood and business signage is understandably at a minimum. If you sight the tree with a round ceramic plaque at its base saying "3 Gihon" you have the right walkway entrance.

Good location

Dorraine is a lovely hostess that will help you anyway possible. We could come and go freely. She made us feel like we had a home away from home. The location is great for the Old City. We could control the temperature of our room. The sheets were soft and comfortable.

What is there not to like?

During my stay, when I was sitting on the bed, suddenly, the bed was broken!, because it was very old as photos I took I paid for a DOUBLE BED room, but, as a result, I stayed at a SMALL SINGLE BED room I did not understand why this hostel offered me the very old bed like this. If it had happened like this, I should have made a reservation for a double bed room at another hostel, even more expensive. I couldn't believe it!

Dorraine’s B&B was a home away from home and gave a valuable insight into the Jewish way of life. Dorraine even invited me to a Shabbat dinner (€25) while I was there. She was very kind and leant me a long skirt as I wanted to pay a visit to the ultra orthodox neighbourhood. Also I was very well informed how to get everywhere and arrive at her place.
