AA Homestay

Perfect location if you want to stay outside the park (I’ve previously stayed in the dorms but there’s quite a price jump to the private rooms there!). Staff are really friendly and breakfast is filling. Loved the book exchange (and without wifi I even got through one in downtime between park tours!) Only things to note but it’s the same I imagine anywhere in Mulu for this price - no hot water and no wifi. But that’s not a letdown - it’s actually quite a nice break!

Irene was a very sweet host and her homestay is a very short walk away from the entrance to the national park and the gathering spot where most of the main tours start. The room was spacious and had a fan that saved us from sweating profusely every moment we spent in the room. The shower had cold water only but honestly, that's exactly what a person needs after a day of walking, sweating and overheating. The bed was spacious and we both had one cover each. Pillows were good. We were exhausted at the end of both nights we stayed in Mulu so we'd be knocked-out anyways but it was decently comfortable. She had water, crisps and cookies we could buy from the window and she has trust for her guests that whatever we take, we'll note it down in a little blue book and pay at the end of our stay. It saved us from going all the way to the village center and saved us from the not so palatable filtered free water that was available at the HQ of the park. There is also a restaurant inside of the homestay or rather, she prepares noodles and fried rice for the guests. We had both and they were both tasty. If Irene is out of veggies, there are two more restaurants (or three) on the way to the HQ, so you won't be left hungry. If you're there for only 2 nights, you have enough time to do 4 tours as we ended up doing and Irene's place is a good place to get an early start from. We had our own data but I think there is no wifi available there. Anyways, Id recommend Digi for that part of Malaysia. Works well! Thanks Irene!

This is a very clean and comfortable guesthouse that is super close to the park entrance. The food and drinks are cheap and tasty. The owners are very kind and helpful. There are lots of fans and places to dry clothing, which is a necessity in Mulu. I'd be very surprised if there is a better spot in Mulu at this price point!! Definitely recommend!

The washrooms got a bit stinky but hey, at least there's a door that keeps it separated from the bedroom!

The lady running the homestay was very friendly. Room. Was basic but comfortable. What is was expecting. Location was excellent. 3 minute walk to national park. Overall was a nice stay.

Friendly family. 10 minute walk from airport and 5 minutes into the park. Breakfasts simple but good. Liked honesty system for purchases.

The host and his family is very nice and the location is the best you can have - 3mins walk from the national park. The bed is comfortable and electricity 24h.

Nothing

The location of the homestay is perfect, 5 min walk to the entrance of the park and 15-20 min walk to the airport. Water and drinks, breakfast, lunch and dinner available for a reasonable price and tasty. Host very friendly and great service. No mosquitos because of the window screens. All day power and fan. Great value for the price. A perfect jungle stay!

Bed is a bit hard.
