Guesthouse Casa Lapa

The host was very nice even though I was angry and tired.

I booked two rooms, and the host decided as a "Christmas surprise" they would change us to a large family room. This room was nice with a small kitchen and private bathroom, but it also has two skylights and this made it impossible to sleep past 06:00. We arrived late, around 01:30 after having traveled for over 24 hours and all we wanted was sleep. We still paid for the two rooms, even though the family room would have been cheaper. The host did offer additional rooms when I complained in the morning, and we did use one to get some sleep throughout the day. Additionally, this was over the Christmas holiday and neighbors were celebrating until 02:00, which we were able to hear very well. Yes, this is normal and traditional and should be expected, but this facility has an open air entrance making it impossible to provide any quiet conditions. Lastly, every room we tried had a terrible septic smell. I know this can be normal, during different times of the year, so I didn't complain about this.

Host allowed us to switch rooms when our television did not work, was very responsive at solving our issue

Simple, no frills, but clean and well maintained at a good price. It has a hostel feel but isn't one.

I could hear everything in the room, from the rain to people waking by. exhaust fumes would also enter the room.

Very basic property with very close proximity to the airport.

No windows in the room

Extremely well located for flying from San Jose Airport the next day. Took the stress right out of the process. It is a hostel/guesthouse style accommodation, but the hosts have gone to such great lengths to make it a pleasant and welcoming place to stay that it didn't seem like one. The building had a real personality, the staff working there were helpful and kind and every effort had been made to make visitors welcome and to give more information about the surrounding neighbourhood, where to eat, where to shop etc.

The property could have been a little more clearly signposted, perhaps with a sign outside saying the name, although map directions were clear and easy to follow. When I arrived I wasn't sure what room I was staying in-perhaps numbering the rooms and giving guests who book accommodation the room number would be helpful? Also, there should be a communal receptacle for trash in the shared area-I had to get rid of some fast food wrappers and was forced to use the bin in the bathroom!

Unfortunately we were only there for about 6 hours as we were catching a super early flight, so didn't get a full experience at Casa Lapa. However Natalia was just wonderful & so so helpful, which made a huge difference for us working with short time frames. The housekeeper was not as friendly but this may have been a language barrier. The room & bathroom was lovely & clean, and we had all we need. The decor & armosphere of the place was also very cute! Thank you Natalia :)

Unsure - we weren't there long enough! But it seemed like a lovely place :)
