"Great stay! Amazing snorkelling. Outstanding staff. Bathroom needs updating."

8.0

We loved being so close to great snorkelling, right off the property. It's a very quiet place away from the main beach. The room was basic but nice. The balcony with a hammock was amazing. The bathroom is very basic. The restaurant had lots of great options to eat with reasonable prices. The staff were amazing and very friendly and helpful. Overall, we had a great time.

The bathroom needs some "love" - it's very basic. Perhaps fixing the windows to have mosquito coverage and doing a good scrub of the bathroom might help. The air conditioning did not work well.

"Comfortable stay"

Staff here were really kind and caring. We stayed in the most basic room, which was set away from the water (no view), and was comfortable.

Take caution when walking along the (steep) pathway – it is slippery when wet.

Great hosts, lovely rooms. We borrowed some fins from our dive shop (iboh also super good vibes, but they dive a little deep) and went snorkelling just from the restaurant, beautiful corals and a couple of seaturtels. Lots of love to Anni and boi

"Perfectly relaxing"

9.0

I had an amazing 4 nights here as the grand finale to a 7 month trip. I wanted somewhere beautiful and peaceful beside the water to relax and reflect, and it didn't disappoint. 4 nights was good, but a week would be better! My bungalow was spacious and comfortable - huge bed, comfy mattress - with a hammock on the verandah which I could have stayed in all day (actually I might have...sssh) looking at the clear, turquoise sea by day, listening to the crickets in the warm tropical breeze by night. There was hot water in the shower, huge new towels, a kettle and a fridge. Also a mosquito net but I didn't use it as there weren't many around. (I got the odd bite. But it was too hot to sleep under a net I decided). The food is good, if pricey. I particularly enjoyed the rather random guacamole with chapatti. They also have Bintang (for a price). The snorkelling right below the guest house is pretty good for fish, and the water is exceptionally clear. But the coral was decimated in the tsunami. It's just a short (if hilly) walk to the small harbour where you can catch a boat (or better, a snorkelling or diving trip) to the off shore island, where the coral is better. There are a variety of cafes here also, though nothing particularly remarkable. The staff are very sweet and do their utmost to help with anything. They have friends who can organise snorkel trips, transport, scooters, tuktuks, probably anything you ask for. The view is just gorgeous, including from the restaurant area, and it's so quiet at night. I'm really pleased with my choice, having looked at several others, and would definitely recommend this if you like peace, quiet and natural surroundings.

I'm not sure if all mid range places on Weh are the same, but it is quite pricey compared to the rest of Sumatra. The food is twice the price of even lake Toba, which itself is twice the price of everywhere else. But, as there is nowhere else nearby, you're a captive audience. This was a bit of a downside for me. The portions are big, though, so if you're on a budget you'd probably only need to eat once a day! I'd prefer a ceiling fan to the A/C and feel it would be much more efficient in a room of that design (wooden, with gaps). That said, I didn't have trouble getting the right temperature, and usually managed without it. There was an extraordinarily stinky, nasty air refreshener in the room which made me feel quite ill. I removed it outside and down the steps but could still smell it! I found it completely unnecessary, but maybe other people think these synthetic scents are ok? Not a fault of the property, but the downside of Weh is the amount of plastic pollution, mainly bottles, strewn all over the place that the locals don't seem to notice. I picked some up from the shoreline but it's difficult to know if anyone else would have bothered, if I hadn't. I like to think they would. But in other parts of the island, not so much :(
