Colonial Residence Kandy Boutique Bungalow

Colonial Residence is an oasis of calm set in lush tropical gardens in a busy , bustling street . The rooms are very comfortable and beautifully furnished . The staff are attentive and helpful and we enjoyed delicious home cooking morning and evening . Would highly recommend staying here.

Not a criticism, but it really isn’t in Kandy. So if you want to stay in the city this is not for you,- a shame as you would miss a treat!!

We felt safe, and the property was very secure. It is set in lovely well kept grounds, the staff tried to be as helpful as possible but language was a bit of a barrier. Breakfast was good and tasty but no options given to choose from. It is quite far out of main Kandy but we found it easy to get tuk tuks into town.

Communication with owner wasn't great. The staff on site called him when we arrived to help with check in but we had other questions during our stay which he didn't reply too. There was no information supplied about the property which would be helpful to have given the owner was overseas and the staff can't communicate well.

A beautifully restored & maintained former family home set uphill from the busy road with a bus stop to Kandy town centre right outside the door. Once inside the grounds you are unaware of the commotion outside as you enter a serene oasis both inside the house & outside in the garden . We were warmly welcomed by Kumar & Jaman with a beautiful aroma from a cinnamon oil burner. The common areas were tastefully furnished with heritage furniture & ornaments. A lovely homely ambience. Our room was as depicted in the photos & all the meals were wonderful .We stayed in every evening to enjoy the ambience of the property and savour a delicious dinner. The use of the kitchen and a washing machine was very welcome during our long stay in Sri Lanka and 4 nights in the Colonial Residence. We would definitely return ! Highly recommended.

The grounds are beautiful with green trees and plants and the structure of the building is the old colonial style. The room is huge (booked the family room) and it overlooks the trees, which is beautiful.

The staff, first they dont really speak english that well so communication wasnt the easiest. Also, when we were leaving, we had suitcases to carry down a long set of stairs, and it seemed that the staff they all just disappeared as soon as the taxi arrived. The hotel was quiet at that point, so were's the excuse. Also, when i was walking down the room holding 2 backpacks and a small suitcase, one of the staff members just stood and looked at me, not the most helpful. In general, the attitude of the staff wasn't very friendly or welcoming. The bathroom was full of ants also and the hot water existed only during the day. Im not sure I would stay there again.

My friend and I rented scooters in Kandy to extend our sightseeing reach. First stop, the Colonial Residence. Once our gps told us to stop on the super busy street we were sure skeptical. However, a few steps up and the noise level drops significantly. Inside, it’s near silent. What a paradise from the city outside the gates. We were greeted with super friendly staff and clean, comfortable rooms. Excellent stay.
