Villa Mata Hari

The view, the decor, the quality of the furniture and linens, but most especially our host Lia. She was so incredibly warm and welcoming and we learned so much about Indonesia from her. The property itself is also the best we have experienced on the island. As soon as step into the property, you can tell straight away that Lia and her husband have put a lot of time and work to ensure the property was build and furnished to the highest quality.

Nothing - it was perfect.

This is truly a gem! First of all, the rooms have beautiful interior, fantastic view over the ocean and are well equipped. Pool area, infinity pool and gardens are just beautiful! From the dining area there is a spectacular view of the ocean. My wife had to pintch herself upon arrival. Location is quiet and peaceful as it is located not in the town but it is very common to get a driver to take you to desired excursions or restaurants. Very happy with the food as well. There were many breakfast options (included and some for extra fee) and we did not tire of the selection over more than two weeks time. We also had lunch and dinner (extra fee) on numerous days and everything tasted very well! For a small size business the menu is quite big! It is not a restaurant but will cater for additional meals is planned. They have filters installed for water which was very important for us as we travelled with a 5 month old baby so we were relived that we did not need to buy mad quantities of bottled water, e.g. for brushing teeth. They were even kind to borrow and refill the jug of drinking water from the kitchen for us. And last but certainly not least the hosts are very nice and warm people. Lia and Steve were very involved in making our stay comfortable and easy. They helped us with suggestions for excursions, booking the drivers, massage and transport to and from the hotel. We actually extended our stay at Villa Mata Hari just because it is such a wonderful place to stay. At the end of our stay we felt like we had been staying with family and are happy to have had a chance to meet them and stay at their villa. I 100% recommend booking it as you will not be disappointed!

Villa Mata Hari is one of the nicest places we have stayed. Lia (& Steve) was the best hostess. She planned our daily activities and went out of her way to make sure I had an awesome birthday dinner and massage! She even dressed us up to go to a Full Moon Temple ceremony. We couldn’t have asked for a better hostess. She treats her guests like family. Breakfast every day was delicious and her dinners/lunches were some of the best food I had in Bali! The grounds are beautiful and each room is very private, spacious and comfortable. Best of all, they have 4 friendly pups and a cat to brighten your day. I can’t recommend Villa Mata Hari enough!

The view and villa itself are simply stunning. Incredibly peaceful location nestled up in the hill above Lovina Beach - about 5-10 minutes scooter ride. Lia and Steve make all the difference in this little treasure of heaven in the north of Bali. Lia and Steve and their team create a wonderful homely experience which was perfectly timed as the drive to the north of Bali felt like we'd really gotten away from the small creature comforts we found in Ubud and Canguu. Their little family of well cared and nursed for Bali-turned-house dogs made for some fun and cute watching in the morning while Lia and her team prepared the free and included breakfast. Scooter hire was easy and affordable. House and villas are beautiful designed and fit perfectly with the view. Amenities were good, towels and fresh sheets every day. Pool and pool beds were simply perfect in the hot bali sun.

The lockbox was sized perfectly for passports & jewellery but not macbooks or laptops. Perhaps some will prefer more fresh air in the villa, as the aircon was a little loud on the softest strength - so kept waking to turn off / on to regulate temps.

After four week journey from Malaysia via Yogyakarta and various stops in Bali, Villa Mata Hari was the Beate Hotel. everything was great from the pool to the service. thanks to Steve & Lia for the great stay

The hotel and garden is a true paradise. The small villa was so cosy and clean and private, with a great bathroom including an outdoor shower and a great view to the sea even from the bed. The view towards the sea is simply breathtaking. The pool area is surrounded by beautiful flowers and plants. The hosts are increadibly friendly and you feel at home immediatelly. They help with really everything even with organiazing the perfect birthday program. The cocked dinner was simply amazing. This is one of the best places to stay in Bali.
