11 Monteviot: Luxury homestay overlooking a tea estate

This was an incredible stay. We felt welcomed from the very first moment. Family is really nice. There is a heater in the room you can use if it is too cold. Good food. They do authentic Nepali food.

Only small things which could be improved: wifi was switched off, same with water boiler. We had to wait until water was warm.

Breakfast was ok. Location was ok.

The room though well designed is too big and difficult to heat . The floor is tiled which added to the cold. In the hills wooden floors are best.

One of the best home stay , beautiful location , beautiful old house , beautiful family and caring team . Mr & Mrs Mishra are great host and Ms Ishika is great cook and care taker . The room comes with beautiful view of tea garden .Special kudos to Moogli the german Shepard who keep entertaining us all thru.

Nothing. It is outrageously priced.

I didn’t like a whole lot of things of the Homestay. The Location is bad; 4/5 kilometres away from any eatery. You can’t get help 24/7. For 2 nights I paid ₹ 15,500; overrated. The room had no couch to sit; you have to sit on the bed. No TV. For Breakfast only things offered were 2 pieces of bread, 1 egg, a bowl of fruits, and tea/coffee. The owner didn’t offer any choice. They had NO MENU that I could order any food from. The owner offered us (my wife and I) lunch on the day we arrived. I gave saved her WhatsApp message. She never wrote about pay for lunch. The same day she offered us stir-fried vegetables as dinner. Again she didn’t say anything about paying for that. The second night, she made dumplings (momo) without talking with us. At 9 PM she called and asked us to go down for that dinner. We didn’t, because we already finished our dinner from outside. Now, the SURPRISE came on November 13 morning at 8 AM, as we were checking out. We didn’t eat breakfast there, even though breakfast was part of the deal (I prepaid the whole amount ahead of our arrival). The owner gave me a FOOD BILL, charging us for the Lunch and Dinner (November 11), and the Dumplings Dinner (November 12; despite the fact that we didn’t ask her to make that food; neither we ate that food). The owner WAS NOT UPFRONT about the prices she charged us. I couldn’t get water between 9 PM and 8 AM. So, we bought water bottles from outside. We checked out at 8AM on November 13; the afternoon before I talked with her husband and let him know- we would leave at 8 AM. The room was on the 2nd Floor. They had nobody to help me taking our luggage down to our rented car. Most of all, when the car came to pick us up, nobody opened the main gate to let the car get on the driveway. That’s a horrendous homestay experience my wife and I had. It is a TERRIBLE facility. They stated - "All units have a fully equipped kitchenette". THAT'S A TOTAL LIE!

Location is beautiful. Owners are very much familiar. Mowglee the dog is nice.

More variety of food, specially snacks to be added. Fan & chairs to be added in room.
