Habarana New Star Homestay

Please stay here. The owners are so lovely. I had a birthday there and our gracious hosts helped my husband and kids surprise me with a cake. They even decorated with a birthday banner, balloons and gave me a handmade flower! They drove us to Sigiriya rock and waited 2.5hrs for us to climb so they could drive us back (around 30mins each way via Tuk Tuk). They also arranged an elephant safari for us, which our kids particularly loved. The family chalet is basic but very comfortable with excellent AC. The pool is cool and refreshing. Overall it’s a really great value for money. Meals are delicious and the hosts go out of their way to ensure that you will have the most comfortable stay.

WiFi wasn’t always great — but it’s no worse than anywhere else we’ve stayed in Sri Lanka.

L’hostel est très bien placé, l’environnement est calme autour. La chambre est confortable avec des rideaux occultants et une moustiquaire. Nous avons beaucoup aimé la piscine qui est un vrai + car il fait très chaud. Le petit déjeuner est très bien. L’hôte se rend très disponible pour organiser le séjour.

Sa volonté d’être très aidant est à double tranchant. L’hôte nous a laissé peu de choix et nous avons eu le sentiment que nos activités (safari, visite de Polonnaruwa) étaient imposées, à faire avec lui ou une connaissance, parce que ses tarifs étaient les meilleurs (selon lui). Dès que nous exprimions un « refus », il se montrait insistant et ne lâchait pas l’affaire. Un côté serviable oui mais assez oppressant en somme. Autre point, il nous a servi un dîner le soir de notre arrivée et le lendemain. La manière dont il l’amenait, à savoir très spontanément, portait à croire que c’était normal et compris dans le séjour, mais après avoir creusé nous avons saisi que c’était payant (5000 roupies à la fin), ce que nous aurions bien aimé savoir dès le départ. Quand on nous sert si généreusement un dîner déjà prêt, il est difficile de demander si c’est payant et de le décliner.

This was a lovely pitstop on my tour and the luxury of the homestay with swimming pool and a comfortable clean room was very much appreciated. It was a nice country road and balcony with view of the garden. Although I didn't use this as a base for touring it would have made an ideal central point.

Facilities stated electric kettle - essential for me and my hot water! This wasn't available, therefore I recommend a smile when the guest frequently requests hot water. Thank you.

This stay was a real highlight! Lasantha organised tours; safari, Sigiriya, village tour, and took us on an amazing private temple and lake tour. We tended to tour half day then chill out by the beautiful pool in the afternoons, as it’s rather hot. We spent 5 nights and did our tours of the surrounding areas from here. Gayani’s cooking was absolutely delicious, all our breakfast and dinner meals were great and she catered for our gluten free requirements. We were in the air conditioned cabana which was spacious and immaculately clean. This lovely family take great pride in keeping a beautiful home. It’s also a very short walk to the supermarket and banks etc. Would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend!

Magnifique logement au calme avec sa jolie terrasse. Nous avons adoré pouvoir se baigner dans cette belle et toute récente piscine. Les repas préparés par madame sont excellents et un grand merci pour la gentillesse des propriétaires, toujours prêts à faire plaisir et à nous aider. Ça restera une de nos meilleures adresses pendant notre voyage. Nous reviendrons sans hésiter.

Super prix, super jardin, chambre très bien avec clim, super Petit déjeuner, accueil au top. Pour vos déplacements, vous pouvez compter sur le patron et son tuktuk. Il m'a réservé un scooter ce qui m'a permis de visiter les alentours.

An absolutely lovely experience from start to finish! The hosts were incredibly warm and welcoming, going above and beyond to help us make the most of our short stay by assisting with planning our activities. They prepared both breakfast and dinner for us, and the dinner was some of the best we’ve had in Sri Lanka—truly delicious. Highly recommend this stay.
