"Unique stay in Banlung"

8.0

This Homestay gives you an authentic experience into Cambodian life. We were greeted by Ney, who looked after us for the 2 nights we stayed here - cooking us delicious food and helping with anything we needed. While a change of travel plans shortened our stay here slightly, we had a lovely time. I was even able to get involved with Ney’s English lesson which she runs every evening for the local children. Ney was so generous towards us, and even offered to cover the costs of one of our meals and transport to the Homestay, which of course we politely declined and paid her for! Due to the location, I’d definitely recommend brining long sleeves and trousers with you as these came in handy for the evenings to avoid the mosquitoes.

Super nice homestay! The family is super nice, and speak very good English. They organize for me the jungle tour and help you for everything! The homestay is not in the city center, but they organize for you Tuktuk pickup at the bus station. Family dinner and breakfast super good! Thanks for all!

"Very economical food and bed"

8.0

Host spoke good English and offered a family supper each night for $2.50 and delicious breakfast each morning (unsure of cost). There are scooters available to rent for $8/day, helmet and a tank of gas included. Very unique trees growing there which have long dangling tendrils like a curtain which surrounds the eating area and down the pathway to the private rooms. Money made from hosting helps provide free English classes for poor children. The dormitory accommodation was 4 beds side by side with brick half walls in between. When I stayed, only females had booked them, so I felt very safe. Price was extremely reasonable given the primitive bathroom and close sleeping quarters. Towel provided.

I was booked for 3 nights but the morning after my first night, the host announced she and her family were leaving to see her family in another province the next day. She offered for a male tuktuk driver who spoke almost no English to stay and take care of our needs, so I offered to move on early. Not sure why she continued to accept bookings if she was not going to be there (new people still arriving that morning). However, she did give me her WhatsApp number so I could communicate with her and she could talk to the driver by phone in Khmer. It was hard to find a comfortable place to relax in the common area. A few of the hammocks were broken or too low so you touch the ground and the upper area seating was mostly wood benches and one very old and lumpy couch. It was fine for me though, as it gave a very authentic experience of semi-rural Cambodian life. The bathrooms were all out of tissue wipes, so bring your own.

The hosts were some of the kindest warmest people I met on my trip in eastern Cambodia. Travelling with friends, we arrived early in the morning and we were welcomed with breakfast and coffee. The rooms were just perfect for our needs and the following night we did a family dinner all together. We were able to leave our backpacks during our three day trek which was also organised by the home stay hosts. I can’t praise them enough for their genuine kindness and welcoming us with such wide open arms. If you’re planning to stay in Ratanakiri for some jungle trekking in the most authentic way possible, look no further. You won’t regret it !

If you are visiting Banlung and planning to do a jungle trekking, I would highly recommend staying here with Ney and her family! I stayed in the dorm and the accommodation was simple but it felt very authentic. Ney was extremely kind and welcoming and every night she makes a family style dinner that guests can join. Overall I felt very comfortable and at home here! I also booked a 3d2n trek from here which was amazing and the guide and ranger were super knowledgeable and eager to share their knowledge and experiences with us!

"Felt at home! Amazing jungle trekking!"

10.0

Definitely one of the best places I’ve stayed in shout east Asia! All the family is super caring and welcoming, family dinner for 2,50$! Plenty of food and delicious! The place it’s really cousy, can rent scooters, book buses to the main spots in Cambodia, etc. Did the 3 day trekking in the jungle, definitely one of the highlights of my trip! Really well organised and easy tough!

Everything amazing!
