Wonderful little property, clean and basic, as described. Great value for money and walkable from the train station. Lovely host too!

Perfectly clean and pretty room, modern and new with a great mattress, a mosquito net, hot water in the shower and a fan. Really nice bathroom and a private patio with a desk. About 6 minutes walk from the main road so it's very quiet. Slept very well, it was even a bit cold at night so no need for A/C (I was worried I would be warm but it's really not a problem). Wonderful hospitality: I was greeted with a lovely pot of tea and lots of smiles, felt very welcome :)

It's very lonely there, there's no one around but you (it's the only room they have in the homestay) and it's in a secluded location. If you are a solo traveler looking for company this will be a problem. Otherwise the place is really great. The pillows were not good though, that's my only complaint.

I originally booked Nethanya Guest House for just 2 nights but ended up staying 7 nights — that’s how much I loved it! The hosts are incredibly kind and welcoming, always offering free tea and biscuits or bread every day. These thoughtful little gestures made me feel right at home. The room is clean, spacious, and very comfortable, with a private porch where you can sit, relax, and enjoy the beautiful garden full of flowers. It’s a quiet, peaceful spot — perfect for unwinding after exploring Ella. The location is ideal: just a few minutes’ walk to Ella train station, with restaurants and shops nearby. Despite its convenience, it’s tucked away in a safe and quiet neighborhood. I often walked alone at night to grab dinner and never had any issues — I felt completely safe. The room doesn’t have air conditioning, but it has a fan, and honestly, you won’t need AC — Ella is cool and chilly at night, which makes sleeping very comfortable. I also worked remotely during my stay and had no problems with the Wi-Fi. It was reliable for video calls and uploads. There were just a few short moments when the speed dipped, but I had a Dialog SIM as backup, and everything stayed smooth. The room rate is very affordable for everything you get — cleanliness, comfort, a peaceful setting, kind hosts, and a great location. If you’re looking for a place that feels like home, with everything you need and more, Nethanya Guest House is the perfect choice in Ella. Highly recommended — don’t hesitate to book!

We absolutely loved our stay at this homestay. The family were so lovely and welcoming. You have your own porch with a table and chairs that you can relax at. Very noisy with animals at night but we enjoy being surrounded by nature. The host provided us with tea and a treat each day free of charge which was a wonderful touch. The property was incredibly clean. On the last day we asked for breakfast and it was such a fantastic and tasty Sri Lankan breakfast. Such a fantastic price as well. A 5 minute walk from the main street.

The bathroom does smell a little damp but it really didn’t bother us.

Really nice and sweet family, felt very welcome, they did everything to make my stay comfortable.

Very close to natue, so might get little animal sounds at night (could be a huge positive though if you like this)

The staff were welcoming, I arrived in the evening after a long day of travel and the ladies brought me a hot cup of tea with some crackers which was a small gesture but was very much appreciated.

The room had a musty odour and while the place was clean the bed sheets did feel damp so I had to sleep on top of them with my clothes.

The location and the host were lovely. The home is located in a quiet garden, only a 7 minute walk to town/ the train station. The room has a separate entrance with its own secluded patio. The room was spacious with a large bathroom and hot water. I wish I could have stayed longer!!!! Wonderful value.

The outlets did not work with my universal converter. They provided one, but could provide an additional converter to be able to charge 2 devices!

The homestay was walking distance to the rail station and the town and is in a quiet area. Very helpful host, who always greeted me with a smile and tea (and some good snacks on some days, including a hearty breakfast on the last day). A clean place with privacy.

We had a really great stay at Nethanya Homestay. The room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The homestay is only a 5 minute walk to the main road and the train station but feels like you’re in the middle of the jungle. You can sit outside the room and watch birds, chipmunks, frogs, lizards and even a mongoose. The owner and her family are super friendly and welcoming as well.
