Rosies Place

Nice place for one night, host was really nice

I chose Rosie's over some of the few alternatives because her ratings were better; since what I found was not at all what I expected and was disappointing, I am not holding back on the ratings. At the same time, Rosie's could very much be exactly the right thing for many people; the experience was a very, very mixed bag. Rosie herself is a chatty sort, knows a great deal about New Zealand, and is very willing to help. In person, she really tries to be accommodating. If you're not expecting a lot in certain areas, but like what she offers, you're in great shape.

The place is very far from the town center, and there isn't much around there, except a grocery store and some takeaways. The descriptions I read were deeply misleading. And once I got there, I found that Rosie has cats, which she says she keeps out of the rooms, but the fairly evident smell throughout the house suggests otherwise. In many New Zealand B&Bs, the guest area is separate from the living area, but not here; guests stay in bedrooms off the living area. The place has a big, open living room, dining room, and kitchen, but Rosie lives there, too, and watches TV, and it's hard not to feel that you're intruding. If you don't mind the smell and like fairly continuous conversation with the TV in the background and you value her helpfulness and knowledge of New Zealand, you'll like it a lot. I met two other sets of guests when i was there, and for one couple, it was perfect. Rosie was very helpful, took care of their stuff when they went off on bike trips, and arranged transportation. The other couple reacted much as I did, though more strongly.

Quiet area with good parking. Rose is a lovely host and the room was very comfortable.

Clean, everything I needed. Comfortable bed.

Room right next to the living room was slightly uncomfortable. I'm not comfortable with cats on the bench.

Host was very friendly and welcoming. We had great conversations Bedroom was comfortable, warm and quiet. Slept very well. Handy to town.

Breakfast was not included.

Only received access to property at 6pm
