Lucky Star Ella

Good location close to city center

Weak mobile signal, no working Wi-Fi, no hot water, couchons were dirty and towells too. Unfortunately this was huge mistake to book this place, we find much more better stay just 200h metres from lucky star in the same price.

Good place to stay with friends.

Location is a bit off.

Very friendly owners, good breakfast

The room we got didn't have a view we expected.

The property itself is very nice. It had a beautiful terrace where you can eat breakfast that overlooks the Ella gap. It's in a cool location, a little bit of a walk into town but the views from the hotel are worth it. The breakfast was very tasty as well. The room that we booked was the last available room (family room) and not pictured in any of the photos posted online. We did know that it wasn't a mountain view room as it specifies online that it was a garden view. The owner tried to get us to upgrade our room upon arrival, when we passed he ended up giving us an upgrade for the first night free of charge. It was a beautiful mountain view room on the top floor. After the first night we went into the room we had originally booked. He also offered to include breakfast for one night, and then increased that to two nights but then when we settled up with him he asked us how much we wanted to pay for breakfast. We were a bit confused by this and ultimately left him the balance of our bill which was still a bargain for us as the breakfast is pretty big.

Our room didn't have a drying rack which is pretty essential in the humidity. The room is plenty big enough to fit one so this would be a good addition. Privacy is difficult to achieve because the doors had large gaps underneath, so sound travels. Also, as mentioned before, there was confusion with the owner as to whether we were being charged for breakfast or not.

We were thoroughly impressed with both the accommodation and the breakfast provided during our stay. The owner's kindness added a special touch to our experience, making us feel genuinely welcome. Without a doubt, the breakfast was the best in our time in Sri Lanka.

It's a bit noisy during the night.

Breakfast was good. I asked for a sunrise egg and they prepared it. The staff were very friendly and tried to help with everything. The area was green with flowers. We had hot water. There was a kettle in the room. We asked for a hair dryer and they brought it for us.

In general the hotel room and around areas were not clean. It would be good to clean all places every day. The top of the nets which covered beds were a lot of insects, which they don't clean for maybe months. In breakfast they used some plastic plates which I personally do not prefer and they were in different colors and shapes.

Nice stay in ella. The workers are super nice and lovely.
