"Good value for money"

10.0

Close to lots of transport options, shop literally round the corner, laundromat 6 min walk away. Building is safe and area feels safe. Good eats in the immediate area. Room is small but sufficient and good value for the money. Bed is comfy. Guy who owns the place is really nice too. Doors are heavy, push hard

"A great way to enjoy some of the less-touristic parts of Madrid, on a limited budget."

8.0

This is a typical 1960s first floor apartment in a low-rise block, in a suburb to the south west of central Madrid. The number 17 bus goes direct from Plaza Mayor to a bus-stop just outside the apartment. It takes 45 to 50 minutes and runs every 20 minutes or so. There are 3 double bedrooms, a shared kitchen, lounge and shower facilities. Each room has a wide-screen TV, and ample storage The host was very accommodating, and was able to give guidance about the local area and facilities - with a little spoken English. On the ground floor - there is a Dias supermarket, and there are bars, restaurants, banks and a public library within minutes walking. This is the "real" Madrid, and not the tourist district, and this was reflected in the very reasonable cost of this accomodation. About 25 euros a night. Having spent a week in more central accommodation, I chose to extend my trip by 3 nights, and this was an ideal place to relax and explore the less well known aspects of Madridian life. Weekends are especially lively if there is a local team playing a League game. In mid December, the weather in Madrid is usually bright sunshine, but quite chilly air. However if you find a street cafe-bar with outside seating, you will get 2 very pleasant hours in the sun between 2pm and 4pm. Take a fleece and perhaps a beany hat, because when the sun gets low, it rapidly becomes cold. The neighbourhood was perfectly safe and locals were very friendly, and if you make an attempt to speak a little social Spanish, they will respect your efforts, and often have enough English to help you out. If you get stuck with a specific question - type it out on your Smart Phone and use a translation program.

The apartment was nearly an hour by bus from the tourist centre, so a bit far to use it as a regular sight-seeing base. However the bus will take you to a nearby Metro station, from where you can proceed. The suburban railway station is about a 15 minute walk from the apartment, and will also connect you with the Metro system.

"Fine, with a HORRIBLE check in"

5.0

The room was private and the place had free laundry. The room was clean. The person taking care of it was nice.

The bathrooms were barely cleaned and hairy, and getting checked in was a nightmare. It took me 2 hours to check in because the owner didn’t have anyone buzz me in, then sent me an outdated video of a key that wasn’t there. I literally called the police because I was told it was a scam, until 2 hours later when the owner FINALLY told me where it was. I wouldn’t come here again primarily because of the awful check in.
