Paulo and Isobel are great hosts! I had trouble finding the place and Paulo answered my call quickly and gave me directions. Isobel helped me take my carryon up two flights of stairs to my room. When I asked about a coffee maker, there were two choices. A percolator to use on the electric stove or an old brew pot. She provided me coffee and filters as well. The shower is small but there was good water pressure and there was always hot water.

I should have read the description better to understand that I would be “off the grid” for a week! The coffee machine Isobel provided for me had not been cleaned and she admitted she didn’t know how to use it. There was no TV, no radio, no microwave, no toaster, no hairdryer, no toiletries (except soap) and the room was damp and smelled musty. The furniture is old (dare I say antique) and not in good repair. You went up a flight of stairs, through the front door into a hallway, out the back door to another flight of stairs, across a covered patio, through a jungle of plants to get to your room. I always felt uncomfortable going through their house. If this is typical Portuguese living, then, sorry, it is not for me.

It's now been my 3rd stay at Ztir and it's been perfect for me, unchanged, every time. Paulo and Isabel are my ideal hosts - interesting, friendly, helpful when needed whilst still leaving their guests in privacy and managing to carry on with their own lives. The accommodation is great for me - everything needed but with a superb plant-infested shaded balcony with table and chairs to while away hours relaxing, reading and eating. No TV is an absolute bonus but there is wi-fi for the desperate. The location is perfect - in a local side road so you get a 'sense' of local life, yet close to a supermarket to get any essentials. Olhao is flat so getting about is easy and cafes, etc abound and Ztir is also close to the train and bus stations to explore further. The resident dogs, cats and chickens are well behaved and friendly as have been any of the other guests that has stayed in the 2nd accommodation at the same time as me.

Paulo & Isabel & their cats and dogs made me feel like home. The studio on the second floor has its own balcony full of plants and flowers. It’s a quiet neighborhood with a supermarket nearby. I really liked the town and discovered it by bike (thanks a lot again Paulo!) which was perfect.

It‘s a very good accommodation for the price. Be prepared the gas oven is really strong even on the lowest level but you will figure it out.
