Trawscoed Mansion,Central Wing

This is one of those rare hidden gems, located about a 10 minute drive inland from Aberystwyth. And what a wonderful surprise when we arrived. A beautiful grand mansion from times past, transformed by past and current owners into excellent accomodation, yet with the provision of all modern facilities. The size of the bedroom and bathroom took our breath away, the bed was large and very comfortable and the views out over the rural Welsh countryside were very tranquil and peaceful. While we did not meet the owners, they were excellent with their communication by text and email, both before, during and after our stay. A continental breakfast pack was provided for each day of our stay, which was perfect for our needs, along with nice tea and coffee making facilities. Some period furniture and ornate fireplace added to the sense of grandeur, yet everything was tastefully laid out and provided for.

The fact that we had to walk up a staircase, which was being renovated and only partially finished was a bit off-putting.

The ground are beautiful. Beyond that it is a mess. The drawing room ceiling is falling apart. The wooden stairs to our room are in the beginning stages of desperate repair. The layout of the bathroom was strange.

See above. The owner's family shoes were outside the door and that was a jumbled mess. The "continental breakfast was a joke. A box or two of mini-cereal, two juice boxes and rolls in plastic. Really? The description did not match the reality.

could have done with comfy seats/settee in room. suite is perfect but outside & stairs are under renovation.
