Hallowell Rooming House

Very homey and unique. There was a super comfortable leather chair & ottoman in our room. Also, very comfy queen bed and lovely bathroom.

This property was exceptionally clean, secure, and located in walking distance to the shops, restaurants, and river trail. The bed was very comfortable with high end LLBean bedding. The host is very responsive and welcoming!

The room and bathroom were compact, which was fine for me but might be a consideration for other travelers.

It was beautiful, well stocked.

This is a rooming house, not a hotel, although they do also host hotel-type customers. I guess I didn't realize that when I booked it. I was directed to come in through the back door, entered through a backdoor into a gym, where I was supposed to leave my shoes. I took them off and took them with me to my room, because it looked like I might not find them (nice Blundstones) the next morning. Then through a door, up 1 set of stairs into a kitchen where a 30-ish man was feeding himself, up another set of stairs where I not quite clean guy was coming down. I went into my room and locked the door. I couldn't get the shower to work. There were instructions about not turning up the heat, whatever. There was only room for a bed and there was a desk under the slanted roof. I never saw a staff member. The bed was so high I could barely get up (I'm average height), I never saw staff. I admit that it was very quiet during the night, but I left as soon as I got dressed the next morning. I'm a 72-yr old woman and I misjudged this place. Maybe others feel fine here, but I didn't.
