Hallowell Rooming House

Excellent place to stay, wish it had been colder out so I would have wanted to use the hot tub but it was too hot out for me personally. Loved the upstairs & the little deck. Tons of amenities & very comfortable bed walking distance to shops & good eats

I liked the room or the apartment very differently. Comfortable, with a view of the river, and very clean.

Designated parking space, clear instructions and communication with the owner, owner on sight, private, CLEAN and beautifully maintained. Room G is the entire 3rd floor, and every possible need, plus things you probably didn’t think of, are there for you! The rooms are so warm, welcoming, beautifully decorated, and extremely comfortable. I highly recommend The Hallowell House… it’s the best! Andrea is so thoughtful, leaving welcoming notes, chocolate, and a stocked coffee area!

Tricky to find on a dark and very rainy night

Some visitors might see this community as rustic and historic, with a remarkable river nearby. The buildings are generally old and the downtown seems very walkable. This area has potential, but - for us - the atmosphere made us uneasy.

We'd expected a vibrant, somewhat affluent arts community, and an upscale rooming house... albeit with some quirky house rules. What we found was... something else. We didn't even stop, but drove away and - after having to ask directions to get out of the town - found alternate overnight accommodations in the Portland area.

Very clean. Very organized. Easy instructions. Bed was super comfortable. Loved sitting on deck for am coffee and pm wine. Lots of nice restaurants within a 2 minute walk.

easy to walk to down town and the river

The location was excellent, the host was very sweet! Having access to that nice kitchen was really lovely. Also, she left a basket full of amazing little things that you might need on your stay. Doing little things like that, brings staying somewhere, to a whole new level.

It's just a tiny room, that's all, there's nothing anyone can do about that. Maybe a little smaller furniture???? Really, place was lovely.
